I know this isn't a big deal but I see people all the time that "say" they weigh less than me (at my height) but I know I am so much smaller (and in better shape than them). Yet because their weight is smaller they are "better."

I'm 138, 5'3" and a size 2. I have my goal weight set to 120 but I have a feeling that if I get that small I will be a 00!!! I know I have a lot of muscle (an ex college swimmer), and I need to focus on that.

BASICALLY, I wish everyone (including doctors) would focus more on FAT LOSS and MUSCLE GAIN and less on BMI and "losing weight." (Body builders and those with a lot of muscle and low body fat are considered "overweight" by these standards!) Because I don't think anyone that is a size two should be only 2 pounds below "overweight" (like myself).

Ok thanks, that was my rant for the day :)

The problem is you can't sell on those. Saying you can lose up to 20lbs is more marketable than say, you can drop 2% in bodyfat.
  • I understand what you are saying. I have a friend who is the same height as I am and weighs 30lbs less than I do, but still wears smaller clothing and looks better. That whole "muscle weighs more" BS can only float you so far. I know I'm not meant to be a size 00, but a 13 would be nice! LOL

I've argued with my doctor about BMI. According to BMI, I've been morbidly obese. But based on calipers, I've been 23% body fat (that was 20 lbs ago). When I told my doctor this, she said: We use BMI.

    Time to update the process!

    Thank you!

I have never measured my body fat (but I ordered a caliper the other day and am waiting for it to arrive to try it out). Either way the biggest I have ever been was a size 6, yet I was considered 10 pounds "overweight" Yes I'm short, but I have a ton of muscle, especially in my arms and legs which ups my weight but not my size.

I'm basically just sick of people saying they want to lose weight (because they could easily chop off a leg to do that). I WANT TO LOSE FAT should be our new motto :)
