Positive Changes Other Than Weight Loss

So once I started losing weight and working out more, I noticed some personality changes as well. I guess treating my body better meant I loved myself more and thus I became more confident and just happy in general.

I'm thinking about making this a post for my blog, but wanted to get the perspective of others.

So what other changes about your personality and lifestyle do you notice as you continue on your health and fitness journey?

I definitely walk with more confidence - shoulders up, back straight, gut sucked in.

    Girls shouldn't have guts.

I am so much healthier! I have only had 1 sinus infection this season, and that's a record for me. I usually am on my 4th or 5th by now. I have so much more energy too. Just leaps and bounds more! I feel more confident. I can look in the mirror and I no longer see the fat girl I used to see. I see someone who is making positive changes in her life and shedding pounds on top of it! I have a more positive outlook on things too. This has been a huge turn around for me both physically and mentally!

I think that, since I am happier, I am kinder. To myself, to others, to my children. More empathetic. More understanding. I am not sure why but I think it just has to do with being a more confident person and being more in control of my own destiny.

This is the main reason why I started working out (I took a 6 month hiatus and then decided to get back to MFP and working out). My boyfriend said I was driving him crazy because I was so anxious and depressed all the time and when I exercise I'm not like this. An unfortunate side effect is a somewhat unhealthy obsession with how my body looks.

Exercise is most certainly the best mental health medicine!

I've not had any colds since starting.
I've found I've become more masculine.

(knocking on wood and hoping I am not jinxing myself)

I haven't had a SINGLE cold or sinus infection this year. I am taking all my vitamins regularly and eating healthy and getting all my water in, and I think it has made a huge difference. Plus, I am so tired from working out all the time I am sleeping well, and I never did before. I think it all ties into helping fight off those germs. I used to get 4-5 sinus infections a year related to allergies and seemed to have a cold and/or allergies from October to March!

Changing my lifestyle to include healthier choices in both foods & exercise has caused me to become richer - richer in health, richer in wallet (spending less on junk foods), richer in friends (elevated self-esteem allows me to want to socialize), richer in sex (lose the belly, feel more sexy!)

Increased self confidence and the belief that I can whatever I set my mind to. Running has really helped me to realize that I can push limits - and continue pushing them - as I reach new goals and accomplishments. It's taught me the value of taking care of myself, that I really really enjoy cooking.

But most importantly, it's taught me two huge things:

    1. Accountability. No one is going to care more about me and my life than ME and it's up to ME to make any changes I want to make and to own up to my decisions.

    2. It's not about ME. I know this sounds contradictory to #1, but really, when I used to get comments from other people in my life regarding my lifestyle change, I realized that their negative comments are really reflections of THEIR own unhappiness, disatisfaction, fears, insecurities, etc within themselves. It's just that my good choices were placing a giant shiny, unavoidable mirror in the face of all that. So I learned to just tune it out. :)

I have more energy, which improves my mood.
I'm more "playful" around my hubby--I prance and sashay and tease--which improves *his* mood. Which makes me happy. :-)

And when I start my day with a tough heart-pounding workout, it makes all the other work I have to do that day seem less overwhelming. It just changes my whole mindset for the day. I'm more motivated to get stuff done, but I'm also more calm and relaxed about it, if that makes any sense.

I have found that when my alarm goes off in the morning I am actually getting up much easier than ever. I am not so sluggish feeling anymore. Don't get me wrong I don't like waking up to an alarm clock, but i am not having to drag myself out of bed.
