What am I doing wrong??

Ok, So I have read so many threads on this... however, I am just looking for suggestions...

Here is the deal...
I eat around 1800-2000 cals a day, I have MFP set to 1200 but burn more than the 800 I need to get to 2000 a day...
I eat 7+ fruits and veggies daily, and I am 3 weeks in to carb cycling (I actually like it... )
I used to log on a different site religiously, so I know all about measuring and such. (I am also in school for sports science so I know all about BMR too.)
I get so sick of logging because it really has done me no good in the weightloss area. However, I try to keep at it (with the exception of the past couple weeks and getting sick of it).
I lift weights and do plenty of cardio, mostly HIIT cardio. (with the exception of saturday night elliptical, that is just straight 130-140 heart rate workout)
I wear the FitBit and have an average burn of just over 2700 cals a day... months ago I wore the BODY MEDIA and my average burn on there was around 3200.
HOWEVER, I have lost really no weight.. the same couple pounds gained and lost... Months ago I lost some inches, but even that has now been at a stall.
I do switch up my workouts, as a class of mine has us doing a different workout M&W, I also do a cardio/resistance workout wed nights (this is a new workout each month) and do a boxing class monday nights. Tue/Th I take a long hilly walk and do stretches, and weekends I do whatever I can get in... cardio and some lifting...
I am 35, had 4 kids in 5 years and come from a very obese family. I'm 5'6" tall, weight around 164 give or take and have a body fat % of around 25.
I know I am at the last 10-15 pounds of where I want to be... my goal is 22% BF which takes me to around 150 lbs... so not small on my 5'6" body.

I am just frusterated with the scale not moving... everyone says it is so easy... but alas, that is not true.... I see others following the plan exactly, setting it at 1200, eating their exercise cals, and losing...
I see others on FitBit eating in the GREEN (this is their weight loss area) and losing,
I do it all and NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH...

I will preface that I am having a parcial Hyst. in 3 weeks due to wonky periods that I have had for atleast the past 4 years... I have asked if the crazy hormones that are causing this, could be stalling my weight loss efforts. I have gotten little answers...I did have my thyroid numbers (all of them) tested about 18 mo. ago.. and things were 'fine' according to them.

My diary is open, remember I have been slacking logging (tend to log my high protein days to make sure I keep it high... other than that I eat 50% carbs, 25% fats and proteins... on my normal days (S,T, Th, Sat)
I also hate when supper comes along and I mainly cook that from scratch, so I have to imput all the ing. figure out the servings, how much I am going to eat, etc... drives me mad!

Thanks for any input!

OPPS, edited to say that I wear a HRM set to my right VO2Max (had this tested with NEW leaf....) SO I do not use MFP workout cals..

  • Anyone??
  • Adaptive Thermogenisis....Looks like you have been in a 1000+ cal a day deficit (50%) for a long time so your metabolism is shutting down. Do you still sweat much during your workouts???

Also....if your Thyroid is fine...then you may want to get a 3 hr glucose tolerance test, vit D and B12 levels tested....Difficulty loosing fat even with carb cycling is a characteristic of someone with metabolic syndrome. When You have metabolic syndrome, your Blood sugar will actually rise on a low carb diet because your liver keeps putting sugar in your blood stream though gluconeogenic pathways. At that point its difficult for your body to use fat as fuel. Also if you have been dieting a long time you may have deficiencies....Vit D deficiency is very common these days....we don't spend alot of time in the sun and when we do we slather ourselves with SPF 30+. As for B12...lots of times a low fat diet is deficient in B12 because we tend to not eat things like egg yolks and liver.

In any event...this is not normal and you need to see a doctor that will actually listen to you and run blood tests. You have the proof from your diary here that you are doing all the right things.
  • Thanks for the advice..
I have been trying to lose weight for a long time... however, carb cycling is new to me...
I actually sweat a ton... like an ishy amount... sweat even when not working out.... My armpits are always "WET" (sorry TMI)
I have tried eating closer to my burn and that just ends up with a few pounds gained...
The carb cycling is my grasping at straws, as I don't know what is going on with me... I feel like "I work so hard at this and get no EXTERNAL results... (mind you, my doctor says I am internally super healthy)...
I do take a Vit D supp, a womans mulit, and fish oil pretty much daily (a must with the multi or I don't get enough Iron)
I will ask about the metabolic syndrome and do research myself on it!

When I had new leaf testing done, my instructor said I was very inefficiate at burning fat in my zones 3 & 4... She suggested giving up straight long distance running for a time and focus on longer zone 1 & 2 workouts with some HIIT mixed in.. I have been doing this now for 3 months, and nothing....
  • Before In got diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome (this is Pre-Diabetes), I used to ride my bike to work 3 days a week and that gave me about a 5400 calorie/ week burn. After 10 weeks of cycling in the heat of the summer I lost a grand total of 3 pounds, which should have been a 15 +lb weight loss.

After I got Diagnosed, My Doctor put me on Metformin ER. First 500, then 1000 six weeks later....no weight loss....then six weeks later bumped it to 1500mg....It was like flipping a switch....weight came off in big gobs after that.

From the amount your sweating, and your thyroid numbers, adaptive thermogenesis is not the problem. I had that issue on top of the prediabetes.

I laugh now, but then I used to go the YMCA and do 1 hr spin classes, and huff and puff like a freight train and walk out with a dry tee shirt. My Wife used to accuse me of skipping the Y and going out to the diner for breakfast instead!

In any event...are you fairly lean right now??? It could be that you are in too large of a calorie deficit for your current body fat levels. Competative bodybuilders who never stray more than 10 pounds from Ripped. will often take months to loose that 10 pounds. the leaner you are the slower your body will allow you to lean out.

Thats why 400 lb contestants on "The Biggest Loser" loose 25-30 lbs a week and do just fine, because they got it to burn!!
  • Thanks so much for your information...
I am lean from my waist up, but my butt and thighs are not lean per say... they are VERY woman like... This is where I have weight to lose...
I will keep plugging along and figure out who I need to turn to.
