Vibrams vs Regular Running Shoes

So for the last two or three months I have been running in my vibrams (or finger shoes). They have been great overall, and I was a little sore at first - but I haven't experienced that in a while. Yesterday I decided to run in my old running shoes (nike something) because I have a 10K on Monday. Now my shins are killing me!!!!

The most that I have run in my vibrams is 5 miles and I think it would be okay to run the 10K in my vibrams -- has anyone tried more than 5 in them?

I just don't want to kill myself :)

Thanks for your help!
Kate

I have run a half marathon and up to 17 mile training runs in Vibrams without a problem. I have been running in them for about a year.

I have friends who run miles in the vibrams every day. If you're used to using them, go for it! Sounds like you're not going to be able to use your old running shoes!
I can't wear vibrams because of the separated toes, but I'd really love a pair! They look so comfy!
  • As long as you are building up, you shouldn't have any problem with any distance. If you've done 5 miles, you can probably do a 10k. If your feet and calves start to hurt, maybe try backing down the mileage some until you are comfortable again.
  • Thanks everyone! I didn't think about my old shoes hurting me! ha, I guess I am used to my vibrams. Now time to tackle this run! Half Marathon in April :)
