One thing I wish MFP would do

I noticed (myself included) that many people talk about eating only 1200 calories and not losing weight. It is interesting to me that if you put in "lose 2 pounds per week" and MFP runs their calculator and a 1000 calorie deficit of food goes below 1200, BAM!, your target is 1200.

What I WISH MFP would do is say "you can't lose 2 pounds a week through diet alone" instead of giving us that 1200 target. Or at least be honest about what the real number is (if it's like 900 or something). I don't think I'd lose fat at that low of a number, but I wish MFP would say something like this:

"Sorry, but you cannot lose 2 pounds a week that way. You could lose 1 pound a week eating 1500 calories and it could bump to two if you also burned 500 calories a day".

I don't know. I just feel like the 1200 calorie number causes more frustration than anything else.

While 1200 doesn't work for some, it does for others. People are required to use their better judgement as to what works either way. Most of my loss has been from eating betwee 1200 and 1300 calories per day and eating half my workout calories back.

I only upped it recently because I am lifting more and need to up my calorie and protein intake to maintain my lean mass.

    Everyone's goals are different.

If it gives you 1200, it does say underneath how much you can expect to lose, it doesn't leave it at the 2lb you put in.

If I change mine to 2lb, it gives me a target of 1200 but says I would lose 1.1lb.

I am on 1200 and I do not exercise and I lose my two pounds per week, sometimes more. You do not need to exercise to lose weight, however it is healthy for your body.
