What does "Bump" Mean?

I keep noticing the term "bump" being used as responses to people's message boards. What is this?

    I think, and I'm only guessing here, that it is to put the message to the top of the noticeboard (whenever there is a reply it goes to the top) rather than being lost down the list and not seen
