Switching up workouts

I'm just starting on my weight-loss path, so I'd really appreciate any help...

I've heard a lot about switching up your workout routine so that your workouts stay effective... While I know I should switch up most of my workout, most of my cardio comes from Zumba. A gym is not an option right now, and it's too cold to go outside to work out reliably. Do you knowledgeable people out there think I could just switch from one class to another, at least until it's warm enough to go outside. without losing the effectiveness? Or do y'all have other suggestions I can do in my living room?

Get a variety of DVDs to do at home. There are all kinds of fun ones to do that will change things up and challenge your muscles differently. Also, if you haven't already, invest in a small home weight set. Doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive, just a set of dumbbells that are a comfortable weight for you, and then a set just a bit heavier (as you use them, you'll need more weight). I love doing cardio kickboxing (check out some Tae Bo dvds) or pilates for lighter days.

Some good strength training dvds would be helpful too, you can do all kinds of things just using your body weight (like push ups!). Good luck!

MeredithH6- Thanks for your advice! I will look at some other DVD options... a friend of mine actually saw my FaceBook post about having lost 10 lbs and offered me her copy of P90-X! And weights will be in the picture sometime after June, but I don't want to BUY more weight to move half-way across the continent! It's entirely possible that we will be getting a family membership to the YMCA once we're there, too. I'm just looking for ways to bridge the gap for now =D

Right now I do 50 minutes of Zumba and 30 of Pilates every day, in addition to anything else I can get in... I will remember your Tae Bo recommendation when I'm looking at new workouts!
