Hope I get all this right

Hello Everyone.
I am just starting with this program and I am asking for a little help figuring out my actual daily/weekly plan. Little about me to start. I am 36, Male, 6' 0" and 262 lbs. I don't think I am as big as my stats show. I have seen a lot of people my height and weigh less that look a lot bigger than me. I am athletic and play sports (not as much as I used to).
I started myfitnesspal 4 days ago and my current plan is 1940 cal/day, 1 1/2 lbs a week with an end weight goal of 210. Currently I am not exercising as I just had a minor surgery and need to wait another week before I can start running. Once I am cleared to exercise, I plan on doing jogging 4-5 times a week. I will start slow and work up to it.
In the past when I got into working out a lot, I could drop weight quick. But life changes come up and work outs stop and weight comes back. I don't plan on letting anything stop me this time so I want to make sure I am doing it right. My questions are, well everything. Is 1940 calories a day really what I should take in? Will jogging be enough? I have always been a bit on the muscular side, should I fit in some weight training also or start with primarily cardio for now. Any tips will be extremely grateful.
Thanks
Matt

Welcome Matt! Everybody is different. I am 6'1" and, two years ago, I weighed 293. I decided to lose some weight. My original plan was to get down to 230. I started out by walking and then jogging after a couple of weeks. I found that I hated jogging, so I bought a bicycle. After I started cycling, the weight dropped off at a rte of about 4 pounds a week (with a 1500 calorie jet). In 10 months, I lost 121 pounds (to 172). Diet and cardio worked great for me. I did very little strength/resistance training until after my weight loss goal was met. Good luck with your weight loss efforts!0
