I want to reduce my flabby arms without converting the flab into muscle. I don't mind muscle, but I notice them just becoming more muscly while staying the same size.

Any suggestions for what I should do?

    losing fat in general will help, but if you want your arms to look "toned" youll need to lift weights.

    Surgery....loose skin does not bounce back if you are older. If you are younger there will be some recovery but it may not be quick. Fat does not convert to anything, it shrinks,

    Eat less calories, reduce body fat %.
    Exercise, reduce body fat %
    Lift weights, heavy weights low reps. This will tone and shape your arms nicely.

    You are not going to end up with arms like Schwarzenegger. Women have to get a very low BF% and bulk with a LOT of protein to look like a "bodybuilder". If you notice your arms are still flabby with muscle underneath, that's FINE and normal! You can't spot-reduce fat.
    My arms are one of my worst "bits" , but I have noticed significant inches lost through diet, cardio and lifting weights.

    My arms are SO bad in proportion to the rest of my body. I'm 21 and i'm really worried i'll have loose skin after and I am worried doing weights will just make them bigger on the top =[

    ive been lifting since january, and have lost 17 inches overall, and 2.5 came off my left arm. my right was about 0.75 inches bigger, but in the grand scheme of things, whats 3/4 of an inch lol

    I think the chances of loose skin are reduced if you lose weight at a steady, safe speed.

    I get this question *A LOT*

    Unfortunately, there's no magic fix for "bat wings"

    Here's what you CAN do:
    * Drink plenty of water
    * Consume quality nutrition (good nutrition is good for your skin)
    * Moisturize
    * Exercise (yes, that DOES mean strength training. You aren't going to bulk up like a man and you do want to fill some of that skin up with muscle)
    * Hope for the best.

    The good news is, even if you have some loose skin, it is possible that it will tighten up over time. Skin is said to take up to a year or two post-weightloss to fully "bounce back."

    The bad news is, genetics and age are going to play a HUGE role in whether you get the dreaded "bat wings" or not and, if those things are against you, you're going to have to settle for just being grateful that you are healthy and strong and don't worry about the skin - it doesn't negate the hard work you put into getting fit.

    ETA - you can't spot-reduce, spot-tone, or spot-anything, so just work on getting everything strong and healthy.

    Heavier weights rock. My arms only got smaller, tighter and more shapely. If I flex, I have a cute little bicep that pops up, but otherwise, I have nice slender arms.

    You can't spot reduce or "turn flab into muscle."
