I just wanted to get eveyone's opinion on foam rollers ( or PVC pipe). Does anyone use these to roll out their muscles after exercising? Do you feel a difference? And what exactly does it do to help you and your muscles?

Thanks for the input in advance!

  • All the personal trainers at my gym use them before they have ppl work out. It gives a londer range of stretch it seems and I know from class that compression on the muscle (from the pressure of you rolling along the rollers) helps prevent strains. That's all I know. Google it.
  • I've only recently starting running (and in VFF of all things!) so my calves get really really tight. I bought a 'The Stick' roller and it definitely helps me bounce back to full, non-stiff mobility after a run. Self massage is purported to help increase circulation and break down lactic acid (source of much soreness) faster.

I have one at home for working out tension knots and also for stretching hard to stretch spots. Love it! Can't imagine life without it.
