Inches measurements

I keep trying to figure out how to accurately measure inches as I have read a bunch of different resources that say different things. For waist I have been going right at my belly button which is 37 inches, but the narrowest part is about two inches higher and a bit smaller. So which is correct? Also hips, I usually do right at my hips/butt. Is that right?

When my trainer measures me she measures where my belly button is for my waist and where my hip bones are for my hips.0

My OH both measured ourselves last night and were both equally confused! Mainly due to the fact that his waist measurement was saying he was a 36" (around the tummy button bit) but all of his 34" jeans are now far too big for him, so he is more like a 32"?! Don't know why it read 36". Weirdness!!0

I think it really depends on your bodyshape.
I am a very defined hourglass shape so my waist and hips are very obvious but I appreciate this is more difficult if you are more straight up and down.
Perhaps call your narrowest part your waist and the widest part your hips?
In reality as long as you measure in the same place each time and are seeing progress then thats all that matters0 -

Hi Amy
For your waist, stand up straight and lean over sideways a little, where the crease is - that is where your waist is. It is the smallest part, two inches above your belly button.
Regarding hips, I liken it to getting measured for say, a dress. In order to ensure my dress will fit me, the dress will need to go aver the biggest part of my bum/hips. I always measure the largest bit.0
