So I was late to work and FAMISHED so I had to buy breakfast at my office's convienence store. They had nothing! So I picked up a pure protein bar...figuring it would curb my hunger until lunch in 3-4 hours.

Calories: 290
Fat: 9
Protein: 29
Fiber: 0

I know its mostly chemicals but just based on the Nutritional information it doesn't seem like a terrible option for a meal.

Have any women on MFP used these as meal replacements? Are they too high in protein to just eat as a casual breakfast?

Thanks!

I eat those occasionally. What brand did you buy? My convenience store here is pretty shady on breakfast as well-donuts, pastries, hot pockets or power bars. They DO have a teeny, tiny section of oatmeal to go (it's individual microwavable bowls) that is kind of hidden. Either over by the microwave or on the ONE shelf with food. Not sure what your numbers are but one bar would take up half my daily protein. But eating them occasionally-and just the one for the day-is not really a big deal.

It's the Pure Protein brand and the flavor is Peanut Marshmallow Eclipse. I was skeptical because if I remember correctly they usually taste horrible? This was pretty decent. Not super sweet (3g sugar) which I liked.

Yeah it would just be once a day at the very most. I was just wondering because by the nutritional info alone it seems like an ok choice, but I am not PUMPING IRON anytime today.

maybe I am wrong to think that people (more men I think) use these to bulk up...

Try a Luna bar or a Lara bar. They both have fibre as well and are mostly if not all organic

Men DO use protein to "bulk up" but it's mass amounts-far more than you would get in one protein bar. I'm talking a protein shake with every meal type of thing.

If you are absolutely starving and have nothing else the occasional protein bar like you are doing is not a big deal. I've had one like you did for breakfast because of time constraints or I've eaten them as my "recovery snack" after the gym or what have you. Minus my extra fat  I'm small-framed and the protein bars never effected that.

The protein bars DO lack fiber and have about a bazillion chemicals so Luna bars are (allegedly) better. I say allegedly not to disclaim them but because I've never had them. I would recommend using eating something besides protein bars b/c of those two reasons I listed above but like I said the occasional one in a pinch is no biggie.

For protein, nothing beats Clif Builder's. 20 grams! It's a pretty natural bar too, and 33% organic. If you have to grab and go, those are the ones to get, if you really want a big dose of protein.
