Fit bit accuracy

I got a fit bit this week and love it! I am wondering about its accuracy though. When I count my steps and compare them to fit bit, they seem ok. No issues with the fit bit counting steps while in the car either. It's having me eat between 1700 and 1900 calories a day to lose 2 lbs a week. that seems high. I am doing Jillian michaels 30 day shred 5-6 days a week with a day of elliptical thrown in. Plus, I have kids that I'm running after. I'm 5'8" and have about 35 lbs to lose. I'm also trying to break through a 2 week plateau so calorie intake is really important right now. In fact, I've somehow managed to gain 2 lbs! Advice? Thoughts? Experiences?
