I know most of us have a long weekend (that may have already started even) and I was wondering what all of you do to stay on track with your eating habits and exercise over the weekend, especially when it's longer.

Last Monday, I posted a blog entry about staying fit and healthy during the weekend that might be helpful but I bet there is plenty I forgot. So, what do you do?

Thank you! I like that :)
  • I usually have a pretty structured eating plan during the week so that I can relax a little on the weekends. And by "a little" I don't mean going hog wild crazy!! It means going out to dinner and choosing a sensible meal (heavy on the veggies), indulging in my one beer a week, and maybe (maybe!) sharing a dessert with hubby.

Then it's back to the plan on Sunday.

Luckily, "the plan" is full of yummy whole foods that I love, not some sort of starvation diet on foods I abhor. I love to eat; I love good wholesome food and eat this 90% of the time. When I do that, I am successful!

Except for the beer (I just don't drink), this is pretty much how I do it. It prevents cravings and feelings of guilt but I also feel satisfied because I choose foods throughout the week that I both enjoy and are good for me, and I don't go nuts on the weekends.

The best thing I've done is to make my official weigh-in day Monday

It's really just a matter of staying within calories. The issue lies where most people think that because a weekend is your "relaxation" time from work, they think the same with their eating.
What I've found is that people gain more weight from the weekend than any other time of the week. So the mentality should be that though you're spending time off of work, you really don't when it comes to calorie control. Though one day off shouldn't really be a big deal, many take advantage of the 2 days off during the weekend to forget about calorie control.
