As I start on this weight loss, fitness journey I want too make sure I log my calories burned as accurately as I can...I was doing some research today on Heart Rate Monitors and I've come to the conclusion that I would like to purchase one that is water resistant (as I will be swimming about once a week), one that tracks calories burned while I'm doing cardio and one that tracks speed and distance as I have a spinning bike at home that is not computerized (should have bought the Lemans version instead)....I'm going to best buy this weekend to look at a few I saw on their website...I don't want too spend no more than $100 any suggestions or advice anyone would like too share??? What's the best investment one with a chest strap or without?

Are the numbers on your watch accurate to the numbers on this site?

Most of your HRM's don't do well in water at all. The electrodes need to be damp to work right, but being submerged is too much of a disruption in the electrical signal to be accurate, from what I've found.

I'll keep an eye on this to see if anyone posts different findings.

I have one that I got at Best Buy. I believe it was about $100 (Christmas Gift). It is a Sportsline. Pain in the neck to set up though LOL. I am basically happy with it. Using it mostly to monitor my heart rate when exercising. Calories burned seem to coincide with this site. The Pedometer part is neat too, but I am too electronically challenged to set up my stride. Use to have a Polar with the strap around your middle, which I also liked, but once the batteries quit didn't know where to take it except to mail it back to the company, so of course it sits in my drawer.

I'm sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but did the batteries on the strap quit or the batteries in the watch quit? The batteries in my Polar watch part quit and I just took it to a jewerler/watch battery replacement place in the mall and for $8 and about 10 minutes, they were able to replace it. But, since it's been so long since I wore it, I've got to redo my personal information to make it specific to me and I just haven't done that yet.
