Of course taking daily mulit vitamins are important... however, how important is to consume all those supplements that fitness articles and vitamin store employees URGE you to buy?

Glutamine
Whey Protien
Fish Oil
Etc.

Do they really help you? Are they safe?

Depends on the brand and Your specific goals, they do help you to achieve Specific Goals and the industry has greatly improved testing over the recent years even though they are not regulated by the FDA which is often the common complaint most people have

Glutamine is not necessary for most people. Whey protein is great if you need a way to get more protein without a ton of calories. Fish oil, specifically cod liver oil, is actually good for your skin, and if it's also high in omega-3's it can REALLY help your HDL cholesterol levels. The best person to ask about which types of supplements you should take is your doctor.
I personally say to take vitamin d-3 and b-12, because unless you live in the tropics you probably don't make all the vitamin d you need, and if you have lower energy levels, b-12 picks you up. A lot of people, myself included, are b-12 anemic and never know it until you find the right doctor to test for it!

Talk with your physician, see what they say....some can interfere with meds that you are taking and/or with chronic medical problems. I used to take alot, about 30 a day.....my MD told me "you have emptier pockets (the expense) and the richest urine in the universe (most are excreted by the kidneys)". Also, some interact with each other. My MD told me to just take a multi-vit daily and since I'm post-menopausal, take calcium with vitamin D. So, it depends on your age and goals, as previously stated above. BE CAREFUL what you put into your body. I'm a nurse and have seen people have major issues with interacts with vitamins and herbs and their routine meds. That's my 2 cents!!!!!

I take a daily multi vitamin and mineral tablet. That's it. Think most other things are surplus to requirements. No doubt I'll be slated for saying that! Oh well lol

If you are eating a healthy and balanced diet of clean foods you don't really need any vitamins unless you have a deficiancy somewhere.

Stores, health clubs etc push these on you so THEY make more money. That's it. They aren't really things you need. Get some bloodwork done to see if there is anything you are low on and go from there.

Currently I am taking GNC Mega-pak, extreme athlete, fish oil, creatine, D4 (cellulose based fat burner), CLA, and after my lifting days I have a protein shake after my workout.

I only speak for myself, but I completely disagree with the poster above me. I have worked out both ways and have seen far more dramatic results when using the supplements. It increased my stamina, decreased my recovery time and enabled more rapid weght loss.

My sister in law is a doctor and has me and the rest of our family taking many vitamins and supplements. They've helped with my depression and improved many other things. She said if she could only take ONE it would be fish oil. It is apparently very good for you. You can't just take any brand from the shelf though. They don't all work properly. I know you need whole food vitamins and supplements. Your general One A Day isn't going to cut it. It may get endorsed by doctors, but your body doesn't absorb everything from it properly. It gets expensive, but I get them all at cost.

Yeah, that was what i was wondering. . . if supplements *help* get to the desired results faster... Thanks for your honesty.
