Hi... I am looking into investing in either a Fit Bit or HRM, if you buy a quality HRM its around the same price. From what I understand about the Fit Bit, it seems like it could do a more than the HRM. Just wondering if anyone else out there has an opinion on either HRM or Fit Bit. Thanks so much..

Fit Bit can't tell your heart rate. It's just a fancy pedometer, really.

I am sure you can get watches that track your steps as well as your heart rate. If not, a $5-10 pedometer can tell you how many steps you took. Some HRM watches have GPS in them, so you can actually open it up on a map and see where you went.

My vote, and eventual purchase for myself, is a watch HRM with GPS.

I use both. Fitbit is good if you are interested in steps and miles. HRM is nice for HR and calories. I would not do without either and would hate to choose. Calories average out close. Guess I would go with fitbit.
If you really want to go high tech. get a garmin

    Hi

I find my fitbit invaluable for everyday activity, but I do also use a HRM when I'm doing exercise as then I know I am logging the correct calories into the system

When the exercise transfers from the fitbit to MFP, there is generally about a 10% difference larger from my fitbit to my HRM so that may help you with a guideline.

  • I am not familiar with the Fit Bit, however, I just purchased a HRM...the Polar FT40 and I really like it. I purchased this because I was looking for something to show my calories burned. So far so good. It tells me when I'm in my fat burning zone and when I'm in my fitness (carb burning) zone. I've only been using it a couple of days so I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out on the scale.
  • a guy on my friends list just bought the fitbit his name is doughboy he seems to like it so far but as of now he has only used it one day
