Hello!

I have been using MFP for about a month now and have totally fallen in love w/ it! Just when I was really getting my groove on with diet and exercise and adding it all up each day I found out I was pregnant. This is welcomed news! But, now I am at a bit of a loss as to what my nutritional goals need to be. I was at a 1200 cal diet; do I add cals to this in the 1st trimester or simply mark my new goal as "maintain current weight" until I am further along?

Any fitness and pregnancy advice would be most welcome along w/ tricks and tips for using MFP when prego.

Thank you!!

I would definitely talk to your doctor, but I wanted to add that I am breastfeeding, and since I'm trying to lose weight, I add in 300 exercise calories everyday for that. You'd definitely want to add more calories, but I don't know exactly when (I went a little crazy while pregnant).

you will definitely need more than 1200 while pregnant- Mya is right, ask your doc. Pregnancy is not the time to be losing weight- you can do that when your bundle of joy gets here:bigsmile: lactating uses up a LOT of calories, sucks the fat right off ya'

Talk to your OB, but you should be doing around maintenance calories for the first trimester, then maintenance plus a few hundred the second and third. And here is another vote for lactating..lost all my baby weight in 5 months while nursing (and I gained almost 40#) ..then gained 10 back when he stopped!:grumble: Note to self for next child, when baby slows down nursing, must slow down eating...

Thanks Ladies! I am not looking to lose weight now but do want to continue using MFP to stay on track during the pregnancy and try to stay within the healthy weight gain range. Just not sure how to adjust my goals to meet my new needs. My last pregnancy I ate whatever I wanted and did not really exercise and though I was unable to go full term and lost the pregnancy, I gained way too much weight too fast and it took a lot longer to loose it!

    I appreciate the support!

    Hey!

I found out I was pregnant the same week in January that I hit my goal weight!! Talk about a lot to take in!!

What I did was set my calories on here to maintain and then did some research and planned my calories accordingly. I sort of used the 1st trimester as an "easing back into it" thing since you don't need a TON extra then. I made sure to eat enough to maintain.

Now that I am almost 19 weeks (on Friday), I have been adding a bit more here and there...usually a banana or a cup of yogurt. I will make sure to eat a little extra on days I work out. So far, my gain has not been horrible. In fact, I put very little on in the 1st trimester and am trying to make sure I eat plenty.

Pregnancy is tricky. You don't need to use it as an excuse to just shovel food in but you also need to make sure you eat enough. You really shouldn't be feeling hungry much during your waking hours. My doc said to eat 6 times a day to keep my blood sugar level. So, I will eat according to that and try to get some good carbs and protein in. These things can keep you feeling good.

I am still counting my cals too!! It's not a bad thing to be in control and make sure you don't grab little extras all day and not log them!!

    Hi Tami!

On of the girls in Sizzlin Summer Slim Down actually told me I should talk to you so I am really happy to hear from you!

This is exactly the reply I was looking for (thanks!). Everything you said is right on track with what I have read today and I have marked my calorie intake to "maintain". I think it is probably better for you and I that we become pregnant while we were in a very health conscious and calorie conscious state even though is wasn't exactly the plan ;). I know this time I will be much more fit and stay within my needed calorie zone and am looking forward to feeling confident that I am doing exactly what I should do. I also think it will be easier to lose the after weight by staying fit.

It is comforting to know there is another pregnant person using MFP and it sounds like it is working out great for you!

Congrats on being 19 weeks! I literally just took a test this morning so I am newly pregnant and giddy about it  .

Stay in touch and let me know how you are doing. Thank you so much for the wonderful advice!

Kistinbee is also pregnant and we have been posting on here. It's nice to have an outlet to just talk about preggo stuff when not everyone is dealing with it!!
