Feelings after exercise..........

I just started exercising (tread mill) about 3 days ago. The only exercise I'd get before this was housework, walking the dog, going for slow paced walks, nothing major. I was just wondering how you all felt, for the first while, after exercising. Im finding that I get a slight headache and I feel tired. My stamina is definitely getting better everytime I go on the tread mill, but I feel so blah afterwards. Did anybody else go through that?

I get the opposite feeling, actually. I feel full of energy and sort of high after a good workout.
How many cals are you eating per day? When do you work out? And how are your hydration levels?0 -
See, thats how I thought I was "supposed" to feel, lol. Maybe Im exercising at the wrong time? Would it make a difference if it was before or after I ate? Maybe Im not giving myself ample 'wind down' time? OR, maybe Im just THAT out of shape, lol. Im still trying to get used to this calorie thing, so Im not 100% sure how it all works and Im just getting into drinking water again as well.0

3 days isn't really enough time to see how you're going to react. Right now your body's still in ""What the #$&% was that?!?!" mode after exercise.
You should build stamina quickly and begin responding better to exercise. If it's still not working for you in a week or two then I'd maybe get a little concerned.0 -
if you are getting headaches during/after working out you may be having a hypertensive response to exercise. Take it slow, and gradually ease into all the new activity, give your body a chance to deal with the changes, dont start trying to run a marathon after sitting on the couch for 10 years (figure of speech of course)
working your way up to vigorous exercise should help, and make sure you are eating enough pre and post exercise for energy.0 -
Please don't forget that you have not done any exercise previously. Your body probably will take a bit of time until it gets used to working out regularly. Soon you will feel much better, just stick to it!0

ditto- a couple weeks in, you'll start to feel the "high"
right now your body is just seeing if you're gonna keep this up or not- so.......

It is very normal to be tired after you start a program or increase a program.
After I discovered running I also discovered each run ends different depending on what I put into it and how I treat my body right after. It is important to eat with in an hour of your cardio and a simple thing you can do is have a glass of chocolate milk, sounds weird but true.
Your body is adjusting right now, if your body tells you to take a nap DO, I sometimes just have to get 30 minutes and after that I am good to go again. You might also try to break your workouts into mini workouts, so take your thirty and turn it into 2...15 minute sessions or even 3 ten minute sessions spread through the day.
Keep it up, this phase doesn't last long but when you get ready to increase your time or distance you will have a little of this again.

When i first started on my treadmill i used to get headaches too, but i've found that if i stretch my back and neck really well when i'm done i dont get them, for me it was just tension, sometimes i'll take advil an hour or so before i get on too.0

I agree, take it easy. Try not to work beyond your target zone until you get used to exercise. That will build up your stamina and endurance without the risk of raising your blood pressure. Wait until it starts to feel good before pushing it further.
There comes a point when you start getting antsy after workouts and want to do more .. I call those fitness boosts. And they'll come. WIth me, it took 2 weeks of mild yoga and stretching which I did every day.
Definitely see about getting some stretching in. That will help get blood flowing into all those key muscle groups.0 -
Ya, I read too much bullcr*p on the internet sometimes, lol. Exercise + headace = 911, LOL! I figured it was probably just my body wondering what the heck was goin' on! I couldn't even imagine going from couch to marathon, I'd drop dead, lol.
Thanks for the advice/input everybody!! Greatly appreciated!0 -
I felt that way - found out I wasn't eating enough (didn't understand the concept of eating your exercise cals). Definitely eat first, a good 20-45 mins. Make sure it's a higher protein/higher carb meal. In order to fix my problem, I started eating 2 pieces of whole wheat toast with 2 TB Peanut butter and a banana for breakfast... that gave me the energy I needed to get thru my workout.
I am concerned that a person as "not overweight" as you would have those feelings, which is why I think #1 not enough food. If it continues get some blood work done, you may be anemic or low in some vitamin or other. Unless you're doing the treadmill for something like 3 hours at a time, or going full speed or running from the beginning, I wouldn't expect you to feel this way.0
