More a question out of curiosity here. But there is more to it: a) I think that we have a tendency to underestimate how much we can lose and b) I think that we want to be conservative/set a realistic goal so tend to moderate that goal.
For me, I started at 205 and set a goal of 185.Once I reached that, I reset to 180 (I figured I would when I was actually at 190). At 180, I reset to 175. Got to 175 and BF% (per Tanita) is ~14.5%. (BTW, I'm a 5'11" 52 YO male.)
I've toyed with going down to 170, maybe even 165, but I'm going back and forth with simply switching to a tape measurement goal.

Excellent question. I told myself I'd use the mirror to decide how much weight I was going to lose. I initially set my target at 205. Once I got to 205 the mirror told me to go lower. Now it's at 195.0

I have changed my goal weight a million times but now, I've just decided to get out of the overweight category on BMI (by .1) and then focus on building muscle/cutting fat and ignoring my actual weight, so long as I'm exercising and improving my body fat percentage.
Also, I'm female, and have set a pretty high goal weight for myself.0 -
Yes! My initial goal was 130 lbs, (I started losing at 170 lbs). When I got to 150 lbs I changed my goal to 120. Now, I'm thinking that I would even like to get to around 115-118 lbs. I go by what I look like now. I now know that with my frame, I will look much better with less body fat. Good luck x0

Mine changes all the time. At first I thought if I could just get under 285 I'd be ok and then 250...236 (wedding weight)...200...185...Right now my ticker says 147, I think, but that's just a number that sounds nice. All I know is I'm not done yet.0

I was about 2 stone over the top of healthy for my height at 175lbs so my first goal was to just try and get to the top end which was 147lbs.
I started last june and decided to try and get to 154lbs for xmas but exceeded that goal and reached 143lbs for xmas day so thought I might be able to get to middle of healthy range instead of the top so changed to 133lbs. My wii fit said I should be 129lbs for my height and I'd like to get to that but went though uncertainty over last few months when my weight loss slowed to 1-2lbs a month and was going to settle for getting to about 136-138lbs, but as I made that goal this week I changed my mind again.. lol!
It may change again!.. I was going to aim for 133lb then maintain but someone said about putting a few pounds back on when go into maintenance mode so might keep going until 129lbs then maintain.. that way I finish my game & still end up at my goal weight! .. hopefully.. lol!0
