Fast food places do not cater to vegetarians or healthy alternatives well. I don't eat out much so I was really surprised. I went with my son to Purdue to tour the campus yesterday. I am vegetarian AND trying to eat better. Unless you want salad, there really isn't much out there. I had a side salad at Steak and Shake (I really wanted those little fries, I ate 2 of my son's and about lost my fingers) which really didn't fill me up. We had breakfast at the hotel (I had half a bagel and cream cheese) and for lunch he wanted Arby's. I got the Italian chopped salad and picked off the meat. I asked the girl for low fat, lite or fat free dressing and she looked at me like I had 3 heads or something. I did okay but was very frustrated AND HUNGRY!!!!! I was so glad to get home and be able to eat.

I've attempted vegetarianism twice, both unsuccessfully. It is really hard and I admire your ability to stick to it. :flowerforyou: My biggest mountain to get over is that I grew up on a farm and in a family of hunters and carnivores, so they aren't the least bit supportive of such a lifestyle. :grumble: I have every intention of trying it again when I'm at a place in my life where I'm able to do so. I know that probably sounds bad-"why put off for tomorrow what you can do today." But when I make that change I want it to be permanent.

Sorry, that was a little off topic, but I felt the need to share.

I was having these really bad migraines and my doc told me to keep a headache diary along with what I ate, did, stress, etc. These headaches were so bad they put me down for a couple of days, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, sleeping in a dark room with sunglasses, the whole bit. I quit eating meat in July last year just on a whim and I haven't had a migraine since. I have a few headaches but usually they can be taken care of with tylenol. I don't know if it is all the hormones or whatever they put in the meat or what but it seems to work so I am sticking with it. It is really hard sometimes, especially since my husband and kids are not vegetarians but I just make my meals and theirs.
