I promise that the lettuce was not 280 calories. That value is incorrect due either to whomever added it to the database or the amount you selected.

Im discouraged. Salad.....the be all, end all of the "diet" and healthy food choice.........I had a salad with my dinner this evening......2 cups of salad, which was maybe half of my bowl and 1tbsp of dressing. Well, the salad (lettuce) alone was 280calories!! WHAT??!! Aye, aye, aye......this calorie thing is BRUTAL! My salad sent me over my calorie quota for the day, lol. I can't believe it!

I think I just need to "cut down" on my calorie intake to start. I can only imagine how many calories I was eating BEFORE I started with Fitness Pal, Omg!! I probably cut down at LEAST half, Im sure.

Anyway, Im sure I'll get over this calorie issue eventually, lol. Im just now aware of it now and its blowin' my mind!

Thanks for my lastest calorie vent, lol. Stupid calories........ :grumble:

    C H I L L O U T

    this system is not perfect,,,,,

salad as the perfect health food is way way overrated.....lose that idea

it takes time to adjust to all this
    it will be ok

    good luck

Yeah, maybe the lettuce was supposed to be 28 calories...? I doubt even a whole head of lettuce would be 280 calories. Okay, well, maybe.

Usually it's the dressing you need to watch out for.

Always verify calorie counts on other websites, or at least when it comes to things you use often/ think are off. Given that the data on MFP was entered by human users, there are plenty of human mistakes.

I agree. I eat the Dole Greener Selections which has lettuce, carrots, cabbage and it is only 15 calories for 3 oz. If you got it off the database here, it was probably just put in wrong.

I carefully entered my salad with tomatoes, spinach, peppers, onion, radish, carrots, and spray dressing and it came out around 70 calories. Your lettuce is playing a mean trick on you.

Lettuce has hardly any calories at all so double checking that would be a wise move  My ginormous salad with way more dressing and croutons was only like 400 calories. BUT this is because I had pickled beets, a butt ton of baby corn and croutons.
  • that would be a whole bunch of lettuce heads..... but i do see ppl eating salads as a diet with a whole bunch of ranch.... i would rather just take the cheese burger and fries.

I just checked through the MFP database out of curiosity, because I log salad quite frequently and never had this problem. I couldn't find any lettuce listed for that many calories . . . most are in the 7-30 calorie range for 1 serving. I would definitely double check if I were you!

Nope. Salad consisting of only lettuce is not 280 calories.
