Just don't get up and out of bed.

Drink water. Have a cup of tea. Do something to distract you.
  • have a vegetables or a fruit to calm your hungry, if you like lemon water, lemon is a good suppressor to hunger also brush your teeth when you feel like eating. thats all i got.

Just to add from looking at your diary... you are always way under protein. Try increasing your protein which should curb nightime hunger.
  • Do you take any meds that might help contribute to it? I know ambien does it for me, so did serequel.

That's why I've started having some really hot, sweetened non-caffieneted tea after I crawl into bed. Or lately it's been diet hot cocoa mix with unsweetened almond milk...sommeeetimmmesss I'll add a shot or two of butterscotch schnapps, if I have the calories left. :)

Then, if I wake up later...pull the covers over my head, roll over, and do not get up.

I was going to say the same. Evaluate your diary. If you are starving a few hours after going to bed, you aren't fueling correctly or enough during the day. If you are still hungry, by all means, get a snack! Your body is telling you it needs fuel. Just make sure you keep healthy snacks around - a little peanut butter and fruit or veggies is a good snack with protein, fats and carbs to keep you full.

dont get out of bed or go to bed lol, it s working for me and i eat breakfast that way also, meaning if i go to bed earlier, then i get up earlier and eat breakfast. if i binge i stay up all night cause of the sugars and dont eat a good breakfast

Are you going to bed hungry? I find it helps me if I have a cup of soy milk (unsweetened, plain), skim milk, plain ff yogurt, a lowfat cheese stick, etc. - some other small snack with some protein in it within an hour before going to bed. I personally can't sleep when I'm hungry.

And how do you suppose I have more than 120 grams of protein per day? Plus, protein is kinda expensive...
  • Late night binging indicates that you have starved your body for most of the day. Eat more (nutrient dense) foods throughout the day and this will take care of most of the cravings, the rest is a mental hurdle.

120 grams of protein is likely enough protein for the day for you.

I take a water bottle to bed, whenever I go to bed I am slightly hungry but can still fall asleep. It is rare for me to wake up in the middle of the night starving, but the times I have I and just drank my water then laid there until I fell back to sleep. You will fall back to sleep. Its like breaking your child of waking up in the middle of the night for a bottle. you just got to cut it out or else you make it so every night you and your little one is getting back up to eat. Just force yourself to sleep and within a few days you wont be even waking up to eat.
  • Holy cow! While working out is GREAT, give your body a rest. I looked through your diary and you are burning 700-1500 calories in exercise per day, almost every day. I stand by my previous statement. I know this from experience (at least for me). I was eating 500 too few in a day and this was my problem. By the time evening rolled around, it was a constant struggle to stop the binging. What your magic number is, I don't know but I would start with cutting back a little in exercise and increasing calories. Your body needs more based on how much you are exercising. JMO of course, I am no doctor.
  • I tend to crave more food at night than during the day...so usually I save up most of my calories for dinner and snacks afterwards that will still fall within my caloric goal for the day. I always go to sleep really full/makes me sleep better and I wakeup with a ton of energy to workout in the morning.

I'm on Mirtazipine\zispin and this makes me feel hungry in the night and makes me crave naughty foods. Find only way around it is not to have junk in the house so if it happens atleast its something healthy! I also try to have a couple hundred calories left so if it happens I log as I eat and it stops me from going over my calories most of the time or atleast not far over. If like me a lot of thr time its not because you actually feel hungry the only way is to not have unhealthy foods in. I have kids but everything I have in is healthy or has to be cooked from scratch usually. I also usually have 100 calorie snacks in so I can have 1 or 2 of those if I need to. Things I like but know I probably won't binge on them... Like bags of popcorn. Hope this helps a little x
  • Stop yourself from waking up to begin with. Look up ways to sleep better. Make sure you don't consume any caffeine late in the day. Do everything you can to get to sleep and stay asleep. If you have insomnia problems, ask your doctor to prescribe some medication.

The problem is, I don't think I AM even hungry half the time. And it was all good for a couple months as well, but now as a really hard week/month for me is coming up I have picked the habit back up and can't even seem to stop myself :/
  • also eat more food during the day so when you go to bed you wont get hungry.

I don't have this problem any more because every night when i head to bed, I take my nighttime snack with me which usually consist of 30 Almonds and a glass of 1% chocolate milk.... It fills me up, takes care of my low sugars (type 2 diabetic) and keeps me from needing to go raid the fridge at 3 in the morning....... there is no rule you can't eat right at bedtime just needs to fit it into your caloric intake for the day...... Good Luck.......

I put a bell on the fridge, freezer, and cupboards. I open, it jingles. Kind of gives me an audio reminder of my real priority right now.

If I had sewn bells to my panties, maybe we wouldn't have six kids.

Then again, sex is calorie burning. If you had a bit of an evening romp, you could afford the snack.

My final answer is this: Go to bed with only wearing bells and make love, not dietary boo-boos!

Don't know if it will work, but it sure sounds like fun!

I had the same problem except I wasn't going to bed at all. I would be up until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning watching tv. After gaining 60 lbs I finally went to my Dr. He put me on something to help me sleep. In the first month I lost 20 lbs. I was able to stop taking the sleep meds but still wake up at night. If I want to eat something, I drink a glass of water. The only bad thing about that is I always wake up a couple hours later to use the bathroom. I've also tried eating a cheese stick before bed to help curb the hunger. My favorite brand is Sargento's light. They are only 50 calories. Also maybe a piece of jerky. Good luck.

Wow--your last post was very telling. Sounds like the eating is more stress-related than hungry related. I'm struggling with binge eating episodes right now that are directly linked to major job-induced anxiety. Perhaps confronting the stress and finding ways to manage it might curb your binging. A couple books you might like to check out--Mindful Eating and the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook. I'm still working through them myself, but they do seem to be helpful. I'm less likely to go into that "auto-pilot" mindset that allows me to eat mindlessly. Good luck to you! I know how the binging how induce even more stress! Nasty cycle.
  • Just went through your diary. Your problem is that you have pretty big caloric deficits ranging from 500-800 some days. That would make me ravenous.

ETA: That's 500-800 deficit ON TOP OF the deficit you are already creating from caloric restriction (don't know if you have it set up for a 500 daily deficit or what)

I usually crave something sweet at night. So it's either peppermint tea (peppermint is a natural hunger/craving suppressant) or sugar free jello.

tea, coffee, popcorn. Those are what I use when I feel like I wanna binge. =]

Maybe up your calories by 100-200, your body just may need more fuel, I've noticed you've been working out a lot harder the past few weeks.

    Um... no :)

Problem is post workout. Advice I read is workout no closer to bed time than 4 hours. Gives time for things (like Endorphins) to settle - who needs that buzz when they want to sleep ?!

Answer is simple. Body is craving sources of protein.

Get creative - dont just eat anything and everything, make smart choices for your protein source. Get ideas from other night time Body Builder's and runners, joggers, etc.

Just a little ! Or you wont sleep after eating too close to bed time !!!

If you are not hungry than don't get up to eat. YOU control what you do. YOU can make yourself stay in bed. Drink water and stay in bed. Go back to sleep. Read a book. Chew on a straw if you have to.
