DASH Diet

I have high blood pressure, and I'm considering adopting the DASH diet in addition to my exercise routine to try and lower my BP and maybe get off my meds. Is there anyone out there who is also on this diet? I need some help trying to figure out which foods I should be eating, especially to get the recommended amount of magnesium (500mg per day). I don't eat meat, only fish, so I can't just follow the diet plan in the book.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Um... I really hope that's not the requirement, because I neither hunt nor gather... unless moving all stealth like through the grocery store counts as hunting.

It's the Dietary Approach to Stopping Hypertension... hence DASH. It's a diet based on vegetables, fruit, and dairy, and uses the combination of potassium, magnesium and calcium to help the body regulate blood pressure better.

I have the book... it gives nice lists for good sources of potassium and calcium, but nothing for magnesium

    But thanks for looking!

I know you can get supplements. No the reason I asked about the hunt and gather thing is because there is a lady I know on a diet for HB, and she buys her stuff at the store but she can only eat things that are hunted - ex turkey, or gather - ex berries

I suppose it is kind of a "hunt and gather" diet... it's completely based on whole foods. It's probably the same diet. What kind of stuff does she eat then? Is she also trying to lose weight at the same time?
