Hey guys!
My name's Shakola, I'm 18, and I'm a freshman in college. I'm not really concerned about losing weight, per say, I'm really just trying to lose my stomach fat. I'm 5'8 and I weigh 145 lbs. Any tips on what foods I should be eating?

you can´t spot reduce fat. I think your best bet is to do heavy strenght training.0

Strength training or just eating in moderation.0

Check out HIIT training on Google0

what about crunches?0

Resistance and strength training will give you the best results in changing your body composition from a little fluff to more fit. Also, examine your diet to cut out processed foods and refined sugars. And, as a college student, consider your alcohol intake. Junk food and alcohol are common culprits for added fat on college students who are otherwise near a healthy weight.0

The only way to get rid of stomach fat it to reduce your overall body fat. If you don't want to loose weight, combine HIIT with plenty of strength training to increase your lean body mass.
Crunches won't help to burn fat - they simply don't require enough energy. Things like planks, mountain climbers, V-ups, are a lot more effective for core strengthening.0 -
I'm in the same boat as you. Like everyone else said, do some strength training and have a small caloric deficit (by small I mean 15-20% reduction). You cannot spot reduce fat. Doing crunches will strengthen abdominal muscles but will not make the fat on top of those muscles disappear.0

Thanks a lot for the advice guys!
I think I'm going to try the HIIT0 -
no particular foods will lose stomach fat, and it will be an all over fat loss.
wen my weight was 10 kilos lower than now (god i wish i was that) but i didnt have a flat stomach,
thats just my body though0 -
Glad you are going to try out HIIT. I think it's awesome for overall fat loss. Strength training would be good for building lean muscle.0

great advice so far, stomach fat.. what works for me, this is based completely on google research, trial and error..
1. weight lifting, compound lifts, work multiple joints, large muscles, muscle burns fat in general, the larger muscle groups will burn the most fat, ex; 5x5 http://stronglifts.com/madcow/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm
2. do NOT do any ab workouts, no sit ups, no crunches, etc. you don't want to build muscle/size here and it won't really help burn fat, esp. not visceral fat which causes our stomachs to protrude, diet is the only real cure here
3. you have to count calories, and not only total calories but macronutrients (fats, carbs, protein) I would suggest a high protein/fat diet, with as little carbs as possible.. so cutting breads and sugars, liquid calories need to be the first thing to go, replace everything you drink with water (alcohol should be limited to dry wines and spirits, obviously in moderation) if you can't cut carbs, then you need to really limit your fat intake
4. limit cardio to 30-45 minutes.. doing cardio for hours is going to hurt more than help, HIIT is one of the best cardio workouts but I would rather do something you enjoy, like Zumba, or whatever girls do these days I do the old cardio kickboxing myself, makes me feel tough n stuff
www.leangains.com is probably the best advice site I have found, a good intro to intermittent fasting and tons of other great advice, the most important thing for losing stomach fat will ultimately be your diet, burning calories/gaining muscle will speed things up, but just stay consistent on your diet, it might be no adjustment or a huge one depending on how you're eating now, I hope I didn't overdo it, just excited because I've found these things actually work for me and everyone should be able to look the way they want ya digg0 -

Can't a girl enjoy HIIT???0 -
Thanks a lot for all of the advice... it appears I have a lot of work to do if I really want to see a change! I go to the gym about 3 times a week, but I think my problem is going to be eating right. It's so hard to eat healthy here on campus!0
