I remember doing the Race for Life (5k or 6k) run up Arthur Seat, Edinburgh 1999. Was very fit but not in the front line with runners who were clearly going to do it whilst reading a book. However, the buzz got to my legs and I focused on success. The climb was hard but I even managed to overtake some of the front liners. The more I visualized myself earning personal success, the better my focus and breathing. I was near tears being so pumped up. Going down hill was a mixture of adrenalin and jelly legs!
I completed the run in 28mins and 32 sec..... And then I burst out in tears because I managed it in under 30 minutes.... Something I did not even manage during my training!
Good luck..... I can't wait to be in my road running shoes again!0 -
My trainer tells me to pump my arms higher when going up hill so fists end up head height apparently it makes your feet naturally lift a little higher as well.0

Look just in front of you but down to the ground when going uphill, it lessens the psychological aspect of seeing a bloody great incline/hill in front of you.0
