Downward spiral

I feel like I am on here posting about my day 1 at least 2 or 3 times a week. I realize I am the only one who can jump start my journey to success. I keep arguing with myself about after this meal I will start fresh. and my fresh start just cant seem to last. Each week without fail I am going up on the scale rather than down....slowly inching my way back up to the 200lb mark....

I know that it's a simple formula.....eat right (within calories) and exercise (even just 30 minutes a day) and I will see results....

If its so simple why is it so freaking difficult for me to snap myself out of this rutt. I am the only one holding myself back. I do not want to be 200lbs.....

side note...I was wearing a dark green shirt last night and had some pictures taken and when I looked at them I felt like I looked like jaba the hut.....that is an aweful feeling.

I have done this before lost 50lbs gained 30lbs lost 20lbs and gained it back....part of my self defeating attitude is thinking that there is no point in losing the weight as I am just going to gain it back.....ugh I desrve more, I want more, I just cant seem to find the love for myself.....

I keep justifying my food indulgences so that I can keep eating the way I want or dont want but think I want..... ugh.....the stupid thing about a food addiction is that you cant just quit food like you can alcohol or drugs....I have to keep eating. argh.

Maybe you can share with me what keeps you motivated

  • I hear ya, and I feel / share your pain!!

I now have a supported group behind me at HOME, and thats where it starts. My wife can eat a cow and stay fit, me on the other hand will gain 10 pounds from eating a tic tac......

So I now have her on board with me!! and its been the best thing. No sweets in the house, no chips, removed all the tempting pleasures.

What also helped was following a guide to loose weight, a proven workout plan. Supplements also help me, I love the way I feel since eating right and taking the right supplements that work with my work out plan.

So far I have lost 8 pounds in two weeks and have never felt better, even when I played football.

I was once 200lbs....have no fear, it's a damm struggle but it can be done!!!! Make sure there's nothing else in your life weighing heavily on you. If there is, deal with it in whatever way you can just so you can focus on yourself for a while. And go for it!!! It takes time and perseverance but like I said, it can be done and there are plenty of success stories on here to prove it....keep going!!!! And even if you don't feel like you're worth it and all that blah blah blah...don't worry...that too will fall into place :))):flowerforyou:

i have been in your boat more times then i can count!

the time to lose weight FOR YOURSELF is when you feel your ready.. its not good for your body to stop starting..
I still have the occasional binge but i don;t beat myself up as i can;t ruin everything i've done in one day, i just dust myself off and carry on the next day...

its the easiest weight loss program i've done because i'm not saying no to anything.. in the 30 days that i;ve been doing this i have lost 8lb and have eaten chinese, california take away and went out on a jolly with the girls drinking quite heavily! but after each time i carried on properly the next day and carried on with my zumba etc etc... you have to feel its time for you to wanna do this hun.xx hope this helps!

I'm in the same place as you. I was so close to my goal weight.. then gained, lost, gained, lost. Now I'm at my highest weight.
What I'm trying right now is to "fake it til i make it." going thru the motions.. restarting over and over if I have to. Until it catches and sinks in. It's hard and it sucks, but giving up isn't going to make me happy either.

keep coming to MFP and reach out when you need to. if there's any place where ppl will understand I think it's here.
    *hugs*

Hi I've been in the same boat as you and still eat bad from time to time. I've even got to the point that ice had to drop my cals back to 1200 just to rein in my eating as I have such a sweet tooth I was 210lb when I started here last year and I'm now bouncing round the 140s I do want to lose more but like you have been in a bad place so I'm quite happy I've managed to maintain around the mid 140s.

What I have found is if I don't deprive myself of anything I get on ok. Like if I want Chinese I have it bit just a smaller amount either that or I have smaller meals the rest of the day. I find though that knowing certain foods are not off limits suddenly makes them less apealing if you see what I mean?

You can do this and please don't beat yourself up about it that will just put you In a vicious circle.

Feel free to friend me if you like! :)

What is your weightloss goal set at per week? Maybe changing it a bit to give yourself a bit of slack will help?

ALSO, get rid of access to the bad stuff. Get it out of your house, out of your desk, out of your life. Surround yourself with good food until it is automatic and not a choice, i.e. so you don't have to white knuckle it. Plan all of your meals out for the week, make ahead when you need to, have healthy snacks at hand, etc.

Reward yourself when you exercise and make a good food choice. No one else will congratulate you, only you. So make a point of saying, "Good job, XX, nice food choice for lunch." Pat yourself on your own back.

I joined this website like....two months ago maybe? I was on it for about two weeks, then I gave up because I couldn't stick to it. So, I know how you feel. My motivation is those tight clothes in the closet. Just today I tried one on, and now it's a bit big for me. I usually by things smaller than I should on purpose. That's my motivation. And shorts. I always wanted to look good in shorts. I always congratulate myself at the end of the day when I eat under my calorie intake (even if I have 10-30 calories left), and myself makes me smile. As you can see, I started yesterday and that's why I have 0 lbs lost. But I'll get there with motivation from me, myself, and I.

It can be a tough struggle. It's hard to change everything at once. Start small and change your lifestyle one thing at a time. It will take at least 6 weeks to make something a habit and you want good habits! The Mayo clinic Diet book and workbook might work for you as it did me. It leads through simple changes, adding another change each week. I changed my eating habits first then added exercise. Now better eating and exercise are second nature and I am losing the weight I want to lose and I feel great!

    You can do it!
