Help with new recipe - Waffle

Ok, so I was experimenting with recipes this morning to try and develop a low calorie more healthy waffle. I created one that was only 137 calories per waffle/serving size of 5. They have a good flavor, but the texture is not good. It is kinda "mushy" but did cook as well as a waffle. Here is what I used. Any suggestions on how to make it less dense?
Here is the recipe:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup flax seed meal
1/4 cup almond
1/4 cup no sugar applesauce
2 tsp splenda
2 large egg whites
add water to get desired consistency for waffles (approximately 1/2 cup)
Thanks so much.
