    I love to snack at night. I stick with air popped popcorn. It's full of fiber and helps me out in that department too!

    I was a BIG TIME evening snacker! I try to keep drinking water and sometimes having a cup of chai tea helps me, also those Skinny Cow mint chocolate chip ice cream cones are awesome and they are 150 calories, satisfies my sweet and crunchy tooth! Good Luck!

    Some things you can do (I feel your pain and think I gained a lot of my weight due to eating at night):

    Do you want something crunchy or sweet? Find some substitutes and try them.

    1)Instead of a candy bar, I will have 1/4 c. roasted almonds and 1 Tbsp of semi-sweet chocolate morsels (chocolate chips). This is satisfying and crunchy (and a little sweet).

    2)Air popped popcorn with a zero calorie topping. I bought my airpopper at a thrift store for $3. It was brand new. A lot of people must get them as gifts and never use them.

    3)Save your calories and indulge in that one thing you are craving. But don't have three of them!

    4)Learn to like salad. I sometimes make a giant crunchy salad and eat it late at night. I include craisins, walnuts, scallions, cherry tomatoes with super crisp salad mix. Then I use 2 Tbsp of Marie's raspberry vinaigrette.

    I like to finish my day with a 40 calorie popcicle. (all american pops are my fav)
    It's sweet, it's low in calories...and I'm just used to calling it good once I've eaten that.
    Then I brush my teeth. I don't like to eat after I brush my teeth, so I think that helps in a weird way as well.

    Brushing my teeth also deters me from snacking/eating late at night. If I'm having a craving I'll down a glass of water and that kills the craving for a bit too.
  • i love eating at night. I do it all the time--more calories than there are in my dinner actually.

    Read Dr. Phil's book, "The Ultimate Weight Solution, The 7 Keys to Weight Loss Freedom". I heard about it from someone else on MFP. It really gives good advice on bad eating habits and how to break them. It has helped me a lot. I am a habitual evening t.v. and reading snacker. I have changed my routine to avoid this type of temptation. I am still tempted, but I am more aware of why I want to eat and it's easier to stop myself. I have also started working out in the morning before work, so I am tired and go to bed earlier. No staying up late eating and watching t.v. or reading.

    I have a graham cracker with hot tea every night...but what REALLY works is flossing and brushing my teeth right after!! I find myself reluctant to snack after that. It's just easier to not eat than it is to have to brush and floss again :bigsmile:
  • I eat six times a day and my last meal is dinner which i try to finish by 8pm. No food for me after that time - if i slip - my rule is I eat then i have to go and either work it or walk it off. _ Works for me~!

    I like to eat in the evening. So I leave plenty of calories free to do so, do an extra workout session if I need to, etc. I still aim to stick to healthy, whole foods; fruit, nut butters, dosa's, supper leftovers, etc., and the occasional chocolate.

    Snacking at night is my biggest challenge. I often plan for an evening snack, but after having a small amount, my cravings seem to escalate and I end up binging on everything (sweet, salty, sour, crunchy, soft, chocolate... you name it). In my mind, I keep low calorie snacks for these "emergencies" but the problem is that I eat more than I should. I start over daily. :ohwell:

    Hi! I always want to snack at night too! I usually go to bed between 11 and 12, and put my kids to bed at 8. So about 8:30/9:00 I have a little snack (that I made sure I had the calories left for) and I make sure I have my water bottle with me. I drink at least 1/2 of it with the snack (it holds 2 cups) and then I go brush and floss my teeth. Then, I only allow myself the rest of the water bottle before I go to bed. It has really changed my night time. I still want food sometimes, but it is getting easier and easier. Good luck!

    YES I AM A SNACKER AT NIGHT AND I DO GREAT DOING THE DAY ITS JUST AT NIGHT:sad:

    OK, I know this is a goofy solution, but it worked for me.
    At 7 PM I announce, out loud, that "The Kitchen is Closed". I do this even though I am usually alone, (except for 3 cats), most days at 7PM.
    If I start entering the kitchen, I say it again, out loud, "The Kitchen is Closed"! If you have to stick a chair in the doorway, so you have to purposely move it to go in.
    Now I just don't go in the kitchen after 7PM.
  • Skinny Cow or WW Frozen Fudge bars. 100 Calories that I save for that. I can't eat it and work on the computer, so I savor every bite and don't do anything else while eating it. I also can't eat cold foods fast so that helps with the savoring part. Seems to keep me out of the kitchen, although some nights nothing will.
  • Makes total sense to me, I often have to say out loud to no one in particular that some food items are just "Not MY Food!". Generally this applies to sugary, fatty items. :)

    Thats pretty much me as well. On a normal day for me I average just about 1200 calories from breakfast to dinner including minor snacks in between. Its later in the evening that I can easily pick up another 500 calories or more in snacking. I crave sweets and carbs. Chips, cookies and candy generally. It doesn't help that we have a Dollar Tree right around the corner with 4 aisles containing just these sort of things at only $1 a piece. Wish it was called the Five Dollar Tree because I would never spend more than 1 or 2 dollars on snackfood. I never buy snackfoods in the supermarket or anywhere else because most bags of chips and cookies are at least 3 dollars or more. I have willpower not to spend 3 bucks on chips but the willpower is
    lost when that big bag is $1 :-)
