Yes, I am going to make an excuse, my birthday is tomorrow and we are going to Red Robin tonight. My sons birthday is on Wednesday, so I have a cake for him. As I was cutting it up, my hand went out of control and shoved a piece straight into my mouth. It was sooo good but sooo bad! I can't resist cake :( As for dinner tonight, I will go online and pre-plan my meal, but I am sure I will still go way over. I am only posting this on here so I know I am not lying to myself about it, being accountable for todays calorie count, and so everyone knows it's (hopefully) just for today. Please tell me it's ok and I won't gain 5 pounds?!?

Happy Birthday! OMG Red Robin there burgers are to die for. Enjoy your birthday, one day of going over on your calories is not going to make you gain weight. If it bothers you to go that much over, exercise extra tomarrow or cut back on calorie intake to make up for it. Most important though is that you have fun and enjoy yourself it is your birthday after all.

Don't worry about it too much. The goal is a long term life style change, not perfection.

If it helps any, I had a psych professor four years ago who lost about 50 pounds and was still keeping it off a decade later. He told us that what he did was set aside 3 days a year for going crazy, and then did the best he could the rest of the year. In his case, he told us that he saved Thanksgiving, his birthday and Easter as days when he would eat as much as he wanted (as in Haagen dazs beer floats + whatever would fit in his stomach). He explained that if he didn't specifically set aside "binge days" he would just do it willy nilly and end up binge eating 2-3 a month. If he pre-planned it, he could say to himself "nope, saving it for ____ day".

I agree with that the other poster said, cut some extra calories in the morning or the night before, exercise BEFORE you go (so you're not temped to skip it on a full belly), and enjoy yourself. If you're really worried and your husband/friends/whoever are not on a diet, you can always try the "honey diet". As in, "honey would you split this with me?". I'm not sure about red robin, but I know some restaurants will do half size portions. You can always ask.

Also, if you do go way over do not worry at all! Just pre-plan some exercise to help you out later that week! One day will not make you fat.

Having a cheat day is good once in a while. Especially if its your birthday! :)

Also. go online and use their online calculator to "build a meal" according to your calorie limits. Subtracting a bun or cheese or fries makes a big difference in the total calories : http://www.redrobin.com/contactus/faq.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
