Any one else suffer an allergy to a food they love? I just found out I'm horribly allergic to yeast, but I adore the foods it's used in. How did you beat that? I can't even eat something that contains less than 2% of yeast extract. It sucks! Do you know how many foods out there have un-needed yeast in them? It's almost as bad as wheat gluten!

I'm just looking for tips or tricks on how to stop craving those breads, pizza, and other foods I love...

I've been allergic to shellfish since I was 14 years old. I used to eat shrimp all the time with my dad too. All. The. Time. But no, I don't crave it or want to eat it like you do mostly because I know what it could do to my body. After 15 years of not eating it, it's just not an issue. Plus, I don't want to have to use the Epi Pen...it really makes for a bad ending to a delicious meal.

Aww, being allergic to something you love must suck.

My only food allergy is to blackberries, which is kind of a shame because I do like the taste (and, I confess, the pretty dark color), but it's not really like I absolutely adore them.

Finding out just recently, it really sucks. I'm such a carb addict too. I have an exercise in Paul McKenna's book that supposedly can make you stop cravings. My problem is finding something I find distasteful enough to work with... LOL! I guess I'm going to have to try it!

I suppose an Epi Pen would be a horrible way to end a meal!

Shellfish. I used to love crab and shrimp... but as Skeemer118 said, giving it up is preferable to an EpiPen as the final course.

I think I have started to develop an allergy to shrimp. I haven't become ill from it or had hives or anything, but when I eat it I feel kinda fuzzy, almost like I am drunk! Weird! I just don't eat it anymore, except occasionally one if my husband orders something with shrimp when we are out.

I have multiple food sensitivities, including yeast. All I can say is I learned to be flexible and adjust. There is more info than ever out there on substitution ideas. It's not always easy, I just focus on gratitude for the knowledge that theses foods cause me issues.

    Good luck!

I'm allergic to mushrooms. They gross me so it doesn't bother me. What does bother me is having to make sure food doesn't have any mushrooms.
  • I'm allergic to most tree nuts. Christmas sucks because my mother-in-law hides them in everything.

You might try to find an allergy doctor who specializes in desensitization therapy. I went to one for other allergies and it really helped with the ones I was treated for as well as cross reactions I was having to many foods. The only reason I stopped was that I lost my insurance when I changed jobs but I plan to resume treatment ASAP. I don't know if yeast is one of the allergies they'll treat but it's worth asking because it's in practically everything.

I know how you feel. I have a whole host of foods I am not supposed to eat. Yeast and wheat gluten being top of the list. It is just too hard.

I'm allergic to wheat, rice, pork, and beef... it's AWFUL.

If it doesn't have wheat, it usually has rice in it. And I'm a carb-addict, so this doesn't make it easy for me to get my fix.
