I use Dreamfields; supposed to have a lower GI: http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com/
But I'm also curious about others, as I also love pasta and haven't tried many alternatives to traditional brands.

I just use Barilla whole grain pasta unless I buy off brand, which is not as good. I don't eat it as much anymore, though, I prefer rice more I think :)

Barilla plus, or whatever it's called. It has lots of fiber and added protein.

I just buy regular store brand pasta and make sure it fits my calories and macros. 210 calories per serving, 7 grams of protein. I'm fine with that.

But I also eat about 2000 calories a day, so it's not a huge struggle to make it fit.

Yup, I'm the same - regular pasta for me.
The main thing I've changed is my portion size - about 1 cup cooked pasta. And the ratios - more veggies/sauce and less pasta.
  • I'm not afraid of pasta! I hate whole wheat pasta though, so I carefully watch my portions.
My favorite way is to have "lasagna rolls". I have a few pieces of cooked lasagna. I spread a mixture of fat free ricotta, 1 egg white and chopped spinach evenly over each lasagna piece and roll them up. Ladle some marinara and mozzarella over each and bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. The rolls make perfect portions!

I also found some great alternatives to pasta on this blog:
    Spaghetti squash: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2008/11/baked-spaghetti-squash-0-pts.html

I try to get either Barilla Plus or Ronzoni smart taste. If not, I get regular pasta and make it fit.

I use Shirataki noodles. They are made from Tofu and have a different consistency, but I love them more than regular pasta! 20 calories a serving :)

hmmm they don't really taste like anything, but they're softer than traditional pasta. they're easier to mush with your tongue against the roof of your mouth - lol does that make sense?

I just use regular pasta. I have collected so much pasta over time that I can't bring myself to buy anymore. I will normally just buy the cheap kind or whichever one is on sale and just make sure it fits into my calorie budget.

Stay strong! Just keep thinking about your goals and how far you've come!

It's been a serious struggle for me...I'm Italian, so I'm used to eating pasta with pretty much every meal...as an entree....in place of salad. :frown:

You could always try some whole wheat pasta with vegetables though! That's pretty healthy, and if you add a lot of vegetables, they'll fill you up before you can eat too much pasta.

Same. It tastes great, there are multiple varieties, and it's al dente in around eight minutes.
