Am I alone or has anybody else suffered these as well? Ever since I started this diet, I have felt lightheaded and absent minded.
Moreover, I would appreciate some help. I am on a 1200 calorie diet of which 23% of are from fat and 47 % are from carbs. I am allowed 2 fruit a day and no processed sugar. So basically all my meals are sugar free other then the natural source. However, I have a very hard time reaching the 1200 calorie intake without going over the 23% or the 47% which in turn leaves me consuming a bit less than 1200 calories a day.
Is anybody else on a similar diet or/and how do you make it work for you?

Possibly related to eating at or below 1200 calories. What kind of diet are you on where you have to eat 1200 calories? If that is your MFP recommendation and you are feeling this way, you need to lower your weekly weight loss goals and increase your caloric intake goal.
Just my opinion.
Edited: Just peeked at your page and noticed you have 58lbs that you want to drop. Do yourself a favor and increase that calorie goal before the chaos begins.0 -
If I go too long without eating I get very light headed, flushed, breathing/heart rate gets very rapid, and I feel like I'm about to vomit. I've learned to time my meals/snacks to where this doesn't happen, but if you're only eating 1,200 calories/day and you're also working out, you're most likely not getting enough calories and things like being lightheaded and absent mindedness can definitely happen.0

That is sooooooo me today any yesterday! Are you working out too? I'm new here but have been reaing that you are supposed to eat back the calories you burn. For exapmle if you burn 300 hundred calories then you eat 1,500 calories for the day. I ate a bit more this afternoon when the dizziness and lightheaded feeling wouldn't go away and i feel much better! I still feel a bit cranky and like I could bite someone's head off...I've also cut out caffeine though so that was a bit expected! Hope you feel better soon!0

I am on stage 2 from the ultimate weight loss solution.
The first stage was a 1200 calorie diet with 30% of those calories from protein,45% from carbs,25% from fat and 30g of fibers a day. Stage two is almost the same but with 23% of fat and 47% of carbs. On stage one is only for 14days and stage two runs for 21 days if I remember correctly. My body needs 1870 calories to function properly but I created a calorie deficit in order to lose weight. I am currently not doing any real exercise other than walking here and there because of an injury to my shoulder. My food intake is supposed to be 3 meals a day with two fruit snacks and all of my meals are portion controlled and broken down to basically 3 protein servings a day, 2 servings of starchy veggies, 2 serving of low fat dairy, 1 tbs of healthy oil or 2 of reduced fat salad dressings. I can also have unlimited non starchy vegetables but have to be careful with my intake of these because of the carbs they contain. I find it really hard to consume the whole 1200 without going over either the carbs or the fat percentage.:blushing:
As far as Sugar dropping, I don’t know. I was addicted to comfort foods before I started this diet and it may very well have something to do with it, I am just not sure if this is a bad thing or not.0 -
O.k. to be on the safe side, I added sugar back to my menu but is there is safe way to d this? So far I only put one teaspoon in my coffee... is there a certain number of sugars that we are supposed to consume or do carbs work out as being sugars?0

I think you are over thinking this.Sugar is ONE FORM of carbohydrate; it is a high proceeded, simple one that has a very profound effect on blood sugar, especially the blood sugar of overweight people. It is better for your health, and for your blood sugar control (meaning, to avoid BS spikes and the BS drops), if you get rid of REFINED sugar (think table sugar, sugar sweetened drinks and snacks) and instead allow natural foods like fruits, vegetables and whole grains (known collectively as complex carbohydrates, which are less refined and STILL ATTACHED TO THEIR NATURAL FIBER COMPONENT) provide your body with the carbohydrates it needs.
I mean think about it: does it make much common sense to replace a bowl of berries with a teaspoon of sugar for your coffee??0 -

Scuba Mom of two, Wow! Thank you for This morning I did not enjoy a teaspoon of sugar and thought I was betraying my goals but felt that I needed to so that my blood sugar did not drop. So if I understand correctly my blood sugar will not drop as long as I still have my carb intake right? Thanks!!!!:bigsmile:0 -
Have you ever been checked for diabetes? When you are diabetic you blood sugar level that you are used to, say 180 becomes your norm. As you reduced refined carbs your blood sugar will probably drop lower, say 130. Because your body is used to the average 180 it is feeling like it is going low although it's technically not. Eventually you adjust to your new average. If this is what it is, it is not terribly dangerous.
But, you don't know if this is what it is. I recommend a good physical with bloodwork to see if there is something going on in your body. Diabetes is more common than people think. I was diagnosed type 2 at 34 while doing aerobics daily, having a physical job, and in the right weight range. Many young and normal sized people have it and don't know it.
I'm assuming that you made it through the first phase with that calorie count just fine. Not enough food can make you all lightheaded too.
Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. If you have reduced your carb count your body may be flushing excess glucose and you are getting dehydrated. If you are feeling better with the higher sugar intake then you really want to go get the bloodwork done. Until then, eating a banana, which is pretty high carb would be healthier than refined sugar and refined carbs.0 -
Thanks, yes I have been checked in the past but I was more at risk for the other one for not having enough sugar. I think it was because I use to take chromium P. What you said does make sense and I just made myself a strawberry and banana milk shake. I am not going to pursue the sugar intake. I had 1 teaspoon this morning but now that I understand that it works just like a carb I have no need to. I am going to stick to the natural sugars. I do drink plenty of water anywhere from 8 to 10 cups a day. I drink 2 first thing in the morning because it wakes up my organs and I drink at least two with my meals and in-between.0
