What rice?

Hello MFPers!

Now, i'm confused - apparently brown rice is good for you and white rice is 'bad'. What i don't understand is - the medium grain brown rice i've been using is over double the calories of long rain white rice. Can someone explain which one is better please as they both seem to have their merits.

My husband is a convert to the brown rice and prefers it, however with double the calories i'm not really sure what to buy...

brown rice= lower gi, complex carb, more fibre.
    white rice= higher gi.

It might be a good idea to double-check those calorie values - double the calories in brown rice compared to white rice sounds highly unlikely!

Do the kcal values refer to dry weight or cooked weight? (rice does absorb a lot of water when cooked). I always weigh rice before cooking, and both brown and white rice should be around 350 kcal per 100g, give or take. Brown rice has more fibre, so I'd definitely go with it - your hubby is doing the right thing!
