Fell of the wagon for a day or two, what do you do??

Like many people here, I had a very difficult weekend and I've just let go on Sunday. I was -craving- sugar like never before and I think it's because I've let it in on Saturday night. As if I had stopped smoking since I started here and was drinking with friends, one smoking in front of me and I just got myself one and smoked it all. The next day I felt the addiction back and let it take over.

So what do you do the next day, how do you deal with your excesses?

I hop right back on the wagon and keep on going.. To me, that is the big difference between success and failure. If you stay off the wagon for another week feeding your face & feeling mad at yourself for those 2 days off - that seems to be a big common mistake. Just keep on keeping on :)

Get back on track ASAP! Don't punish yourself, don't worry about it. Just get back to doing it right!

One thing that I used to do to keep myself on track on the weekends was to set my weigh in day as Monday. Really helped me stay on track!

Pretty sure we have all been there and you just start over. You are worth the hard work you are putting into every moment, don't forget that. Life is full of good and bad, just try to make it more good then bad and you'll do great. I had a day yesterday and today i'm back at this new journey that i have chosen.
  • It was just one day, not my life. Get back up and start all over again. I will have a drink on the weekend, especially if I am under on calories. I wouldn't feel guilty, if we don't give in everyone in awhile we will never learn moderation and we are bound to fall off the wagon and let it run over us. We eat out every Friday, I don't scarf down half a pizza anymore, but I do eat pizza. It also is okay on occasion to go over on your calories, this will help prevent starvation mode and periods where your body stalls.

Do you go more 'hardcore' on it during the following days or you just get back to the lifestyles you started to implement?
  • Like the rest of the previous posters....get right back up and start again! I sometimes even do this mid-day. If I have a super bad lunch, bad choice in the heat of the moment type of thing, instead of throwing the entire day down the tubes I eat well for the rest of the evening.

    Hang in there.

Track it honestly and get back on.

Also, see if you can figure out what triggered you and how to possibly forestall it next time. Maybe you're trying to be "too" good and not allowing for any treats at all. Sometimes when I desperately want candy I will buy one single piece of laffy taffy at a gas station. That will help me satisfy my strong, strong desire for candy while not leaving the temptation of an open bag/bar ready to eat more.

I agree, just start again. Don't dwell on the slip, I think most do it. I have but I move forward. IMHO, my personality if I denied myself everything all the time, eventually I would binge. I would rather give in here and there a little bit than do that.

You mentioned sugar cravings. I keep dark choc covered yogurt raisins for those cravings. I they are very sweet. I can't even eat a whole serving size.

Ive been craving salty crunch and creamy snacks all week (and somehow Ive been loosing more weight but I dont feel good about it). My plan is to get soup to sadate the salty. Whenever I crave it Ill warm some veggie filled goodness (I dont put salt in my soup but it tastes like I do). If I still crave it after I'll probably eat it, at least Ill want less of it this way.

Pick up a pomogranate. They're sweet and it takes time to eat. You could always add it to yogurt so its more filling.

I also find this helps when I remember to think it "Im proud of myself when I look at my dairy and I've ate healthy. Do I really want to write this down for the world to see". Make sure you track it before you eat it.

I have a cheat day - this weekend was a cheat weekend (oops!) but I don't let it get me down. I jump back on, double my regular water intake, and hit the gym.

Just get back on it again. You can't do anything about it so why dwell on it? If I'm in the mood and know I can easily do it, I'll adjust calories, if not then I won't! Just be realistic with yourself.

I usually try to work out harder for a day or two, and drink a lot of water, to 'flush' the damages as much as possible.

What's done is done, unfortunately, but the key is to keep going, and not let a bad day (or weekend) turn into an excuse to give up.

Another major thing I do is to really focus on how my body feels after 'blowing it'. Most of the time when I do that now, I'm sluggish, and usually have messed up my digestive track from the bad food and even have headaches if I've had a lot of sugar. Paying close attention to that physical response (and not wanting to have those problems again) makes it easier to avoid the temptations the next time around.
  • A cheat day sounds pretty typical in most cases for people trying to lose weight. If you don't want to do that then no worries just start your usual routine the next day as if nothing happened :)

I was horrible yesterday! I didn't even log it because I know I will hate myself. We went to visit family and I had a crabcake eggs benedict with 2 glasses of champagne for breakfast!! I did substitue fruit for the hash browns, though. :) Then we went to the casino and I had a beer! I felt horrible, but I had a healthy 6" turkey (no cheese, no mayo) for dinner and went from there...

There's only one thing you can do, put it behind you and get back on the wagon. If you don't, you'll never get where you're trying to go.

I don't think you have to be more "hardcore". That just feels like punishment. You aren't being punished for being bad. You are simply getting back on track of eating healthy. I had a bad weekend too. It is what it is. I'm back to business today.
