middle of the night hunger

A few times this past week I have woken up between 3AM and 5AM and my stomach is growling. I cant go back to sleep without eating something. I tried drinking water and it didnt help. I know I am eating enough during the day. I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else and also what is the best snack to eat? I wasnt sure if I should eat a banana, granola bar, or what? Thanks all!
