measuring?

Hey everyone,

I didn't take my measurements at my highest weight because I was scared... and now I've lost some so I'm thinking it's too late... I mean it would never be what it was. and I'm still more than a little scared to take my measurements... for those who've done it, how much of a difference did it make?

    HUGE difference (pardon the pun)

    Here's the thing about numbers - they are only important when YOU make them important.

    So, take your measurements, write them down, put them away. They aren't important.

    Until the numbers on the scale cause you to forget numbers aren't important - i mean come on! you've been working out like a fiend, tracking every thing you eat, drinking lots of water..why is that dang number not going down??!! Then take out your measuring tape, and your hidden original measurements.

    THEN, and only THEN are the numbers important:)

    you also kinda answered the question yourself..you were going to take your original measurements a while ago and didn't and now you regret it kinda..so take them now..its better to regret something you did then didn't. (in most cases).

    just my long winded and humble opinion:)

    I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, exactly. So I will guess you mean in motivation. It is much more motivating to watch the measuring tape show loss. For me, it will show even when the scale doesn't move noticeably. However, my scale is weird. It's not digital and it will tell me different weights every time I step on it within a minutes time span. Just too cheap to go out and buy a more expensive one. Especially, when the measurements will show change. Soooo, I recommend taking your measurements, write them down in a diary somewhere so you can go back and look at your progress. It will help when you think this has been a long and painful journey with little success. Also, don't forget to measure thighs, calves, arms, neck. Depending on how much you have to lose, it will show all over, meaning measuring your waist and hips over and over may not show the success you had on your calves or thighs, etc.

    I agree. I get frustrated with the flinging-flanging scale when it just won't move no matter what I do. So I take measurements. Those help me stay with it and not give up. I like Lisa's idea. Hide your measurements (just remember where you put them) and take them out when you're starting to get frustrated with the scale and see that you really are improving.

    OMG! well that was the most depressing thing I've done in a while... first i couldn't find a tape measure, so I got string...

    I measured each area and then just cut the string. Then my helpful hubby reminded me of the tape measure in his toolbox... my three strings were almost as long as I am tall and they were all the same. I hope I'm grateful that I did this later. I'm saving the strings and hoping that at my highest weight the string around wouldn't have been taller than me. :(
