Nonscale Fitness / Weight-loss goals?

Do you set any fitness or weight-loss goals unrelated to the scale? Mine include:

- Run a 7-minute mile
- Lower my resting heart rate to 64 beats per minute.
- Do a chinup
- Deadlift my weight (then 125% of my weight!)
- Drop a pants size at the Gap.

I like to quantify progress, but am trying to avoid the scale. Goals like these help me stick with exercise without making me neurotic about losing weight.

    Definitely! Gotta have those!

    -Run a 10-minute mile
    -Run a 5k without walking
    -Run a 10k without walking
    -Run a Marathon
-Hold every pose in my yoga class for as long as my instructor does
-Keep up with everyone in my Body Combat class
-Wear a pair of jeans in the single digit size
-Wear this vintage dress I've been hoarding for a few years now
  • Great goals!

I've got fairly severe asthma and have never been able to run even a 100m dash, so my first goal is that. I've already progressed to not needing my inhaler during a 45-60 min low-impact workout, so I see it in my future. :)

    Breathing Related:
    - Be able to run 100m sprint and still be able to breathe. No inhaler.
    - Be able to jog or run consistently (10 minutes solid would be a miracle) for exercise and leisure.

    Size Related:
    - Be able to share pants with my best friend. 2 sizes to go.
    - Wear skinny jeans comfortably and confidently.

Great goals, guys! You are awesome!

My goals right now aren't well-defined. I want to :
    - continue to exercise every day
    - run a half-marathon with hubby's nieces in May
    - do more strength training

I am very happy with what I have accomplished in the last year, and don't want to either (a) try to do too much and end up injured, worn out, or unbalanced in the rest of my life (b) get complacent and get out of shape again. Looking for that balancing point.

Oh, I like this post! I've been getting a little too emotional about the scale (still 30 lbs away from goal and it's not budging!), so I'm trying to find other ways to measure my success and keep working on the process:

    - run a half marathon in under 2 hours, 4 minutes
    - complete the Insanity workout series (but 3 workouts a week instead of 6, thanks to running training at the same time)
    - improve in all 8 of the Insanity skills tests
    - might add in p90x....still debating
    - lose two pant sizes (by July)

    As for the process:
    - keep calories under 1500. I've been all over the map on my intake depending on my calorie burn that day, but think I would see better results if I was more consistent with my intake and just enjoy whatever extra defecit I get from the workout of the day
    - ditch all sweets (except skinny cow 100 cal pops) for 30 days
    - keep logging daily, make food journal public, aim for 100+ calorie deficit daily

Would love new friends, ideas for recipes and workouts, and support! Add me as a friend!

You know you've got a good set of MFP pals when they're the only ones who respond to your posts!

buckystars - I've been there! It's so hard to part with vintage clothes because you never know if something like it will pop up again!

cherry_blossom - I had no idea about your asthma. I should've been giving you extra props when you post your exercise!

pdworkman - Running a half was one of the most satisfying goals I've ever crossed off a list. I hope that goes well for you!

kk - Can't belive I forgot Insanity! That's definitely on my To Do list too!
