One awesome thing about low carb, is when you take them away you stop to crave the carbs. I don't necessarily do "low carb" I just try to make sure that each meal is centered around protein. When you eat like that, it actually becomes natural that carbs aren't large in the diet. I got for a 40/30/30 carb/protein/fat ratio. Usually my carbs end up around 150 g and my protein around 100g. It seems to be working well for me.

However, I do have a couple cheat meals every so often, especially on the weekends and I find I blow up like a balloon and gain 3-4 pounds from it. It does come off very quickly once I go back to my regular diet.

Some people are more sensitive to different foods. I don't really mean an allergy, but more like body types that require different nutrition. Think about it: native peoples eating their native diets have excellent health as a rule. Eskimos eat almost exclusively meat and lots of fat, but they don't have heart conditions and cholesterol problems. Many Asian cultures eat a lot of rice, veggies, and fish - low fat and higher carbs, but they also have excellent health. Depending on our genetics, each of us has a diet of what is healthy for us and will produce the best results. My mom is sensitive to carbs, so she is in the best health when she sticks to a low fat diet. She doesn't have to worry about fat though and considers full-fat cheeses, milks, and meats to be healthier than modified foods that are low or non fat. On the flip side, some people do best on a vegetarian diet; low fat, sometimes low protein, and high in carbs. You just have to figure out what's right for YOU; don't try too hard to figure out the "universally correct diet" because there is no such thing. (-:

(If you're a Jillian fan you might know that she talks about slow, fast, and balanced oxidizers; this is the same thing)

    Carbs are not "evil"

For me they are! I am doing Atkins and am losing much more rapidly than if I ate carbs along with other good food. Eating good food is fine for nutrition etc, but for me, it takes a ton of exercise and weeks of dieting to lose two or three pounds your way. My way, (20 g carbs daily) works much quicker, and I feel great.

Get back to us after you eventually get off the low carb diet ;) unless you buck the trend that most people do, you'll gain all that weight back just as fast as you lost it and then some. Hard work is hard, and shortcuts tend to send us on self-destruct.

    Good luck.

I'm not cutting out all carbs.. Just not eating breads, trying to stay away from refined sugars, and staying away from potatoes. I'm still getting carbs from veggies and meats.. I also get carbs from my protein drinks.

I really wish people would stop saying this. If you know what you're doing and how to maintain that won't happen. It didn't for me. 6 months later the weight is still off.

Thank you for the "Good luck". I hope you weren't being sarcastic. Of course, if I go back to the way I ate before, I will gain. But isn't that true of any diet? I don't plan to ever stop going to the gym every day, so even if I introduce carbs back into my diet (after reaching goal-another twenty pounds- I will never make them the majority of what I eat. I will always eat low carb, just not as low carb as I am now.
