Egg Whites??

I see loads of posts of people's meals where they only eat egg white and not the whole egg.

Why is that?

Eggs are fab, and separating the white must be a pain, so why do people do it?

  • The egg whites are lower in calorie and are a good source of protein I think. So you can have a huge omelet made from egg whites and keep it low in calories! Some people don't like eating too much of the yolks because it's suppose to be bad for you (although I think this has been a myth that's been debunked?).
    Separating the egg whites isn't that hard! Some people even buy containers of liquid eggs from Egg Beaters with just egg whites in them!
    It's just a personal preference. Egg whites are really yummy though depending on how you prepare them! :)

    I believe the yolks have quite a bit of cholesterol and add to the calories/fat, where as the whites are just a good source of protein. Personally, I have abnormally low cholesterol, so when I make scrambled eggs I use 2 whole eggs and don't worry so much about my cholesterol intake (but I do pay attention to the calories). Many people who struggle with higher cholesterol levels are advised to use the whites only. Separating isn't too much trouble, though.

    Personally I do egg whites because they're lower in calories and cheaper. I can get 4 cartons at sam's club for $6 or pay $9 for the same as egg beaters. And I love the cartons. Less mess. Super easy. Just my preference though.

    I eat a lot of egg whites. It's really simple to hold the egg over a bowl and kind of toss the yolk back and forth between the two halves of the cracked shell letting the white fall into the bowl.

    I love eating eggs every day for breakfast. 3 egg whites has 12g protein, no fat, carbs, or cholesterol and bout 50 calories. 1 whole egg has about 70 calories, and 5 grams of fat (1.6g saturated), 1 carb, 210mg cholesterol.

    So if you love eggs, egg whites are the guilt free way to go. (As I eat my egg white sandwich....)
