My friend and I both have the Polar FT60 HRM. We did the resting heart rate to store in the watch, but neither of us knows what the results mean. Is the heart rate higher or lower because of age or fitness level or both? Is there an average heart rate to know if we are in the right zone?

The resting heart rate is just a basis for the HRM to track your overall health and progress. Your individual heart rate will vary depending on your age and fitness level. Additionally, the max heart rate that the monitor will recommend for you will depend on your age. 220 - your age is the max everywhere I've seen it discussed.

There is no zone for resting heart rate. The zones (1,2 & 3) are used during your exercise sessions. You'll put the chest strap on, get ready to begin your cardio session, push the right center button twice to start recording, and it will tell you when it has found the signal from the transmitter.

Then, you have a choice of information to display on the wrist unit. I always use the up/down arrow buttons on the right side to change the display to the three-bar graph with the heart icon telling me which zone I am currently in, what my actual hr is, and if I fall below zone 1 or go above zone 3, it will beep at me. You can also hold down one of the buttons (can remember which at the mo) to lock the zone you want to keep your heart rate in, and it will beep if you leave that zone.

    Hope I've helped! :flowerforyou:
