What is normal weight changes from day to day? And how do you know when you really have gained a pound? My scale will go up and down, like this week it stayed at 115.0 for most of the week, but on Tuesday it was 115.6 and today it was 116.0!
Does this mean I have gained a pound? :noway: :explode:
I am normally not a scale watcher, but decided to do a test this week to see how it changed from day to day.

It depends on what your eating and what time you're weighing in! Sodium can alter your weight. And usually you weigh more in the evening than in the morning. And if you're working out you may be gaining muscle! It will be okay!

I have seen the scale go up 3lbs in a matter of hours. I only weigh myself once a week, in the morning after I go to the bathroom and before I eat or drink anything (and oh yeah, in the buff.) This is about as accurate as I can get except for when it is that time of the month, in which I have gone up 5lbs! Luckily I come back down within a few days. I don't stress over it anymore, I weigh less today than I did last month and the month before and that is good enough for me.

Weight can vary as much as 2 pounds in either direction on a daily basis. Water retention is a big culprit. I weigh myself on a daily basis and can see it go in either direction depending on what I ate the day before (high sodium foods) and what time of the month it is. If you are going to weigh every day you have to understand it can change this much daily. I use it to motivate me to keep my sodium intake down, drink enough water and work out harder.

Good to know! I have been frustrated with thie Scales moving up and down from 2 pounds to 4 pounds the one time I weigh during the week. I had my monthly last week and I gained all my weight back on the scales. They I realized it was water weight and it will be back to normal soon.

Will find out for sure next Wednesday.

If you drink a gallon of water, you'll gain 8 pounds, so its not impossible to gain a pretty significant amount of weight from factors that are really kind of arbitrary over the course of 24 hours. You don't actually weigh 8 more pounds, but the water inside you does. Same goes with glycogen. Same goes with the food in your belly if you don't get rid of it in the morning.

I weigh myself every day, less to keep track of weight, more to get an idea of where I stand, and it makes things more "real." It helps me, but I don't freak out if I see a higher number.

I do weigh every day, but I try to keep it realistic by a) still having only 1 weigh-in day a week that I actually record and b) using the day to day fluctuations just to note that my highs aren't as high as they used to be and my lows are going lower. The key is to use it as a guide tool, like others have said, because the micro-numbers are a moving target!
  • I weigh in every morning... before breakfast but after the morning bathroom routine... and before getting dressed.

I'm not so much obsessive about it but just keeping track of what I'm doing day to day and trying to figure out how my body reacts to a cheat day or a heavy exercise day, etc. It's just my personal way to keep myself in check, just don't freak if the scale moves up.

I've watched each of my four lbs drop off the scale and have been thrilled with each... but also dreading the pms gain coming up soon (mine is as high as 10lbs). But changes in the scale make me more conscious of what I'm doing during the day in regards to eating, walking, exercising, etc.

Whew! I was getting nervous because I am up five pounds since it is that time of the month and I didn't know if that big of a difference was possible! Good to know :)
