Hi I have been on here since Jan and I have lost 14lbs! I have been getting conflicting advice about exercise and its effects on dieting. I have been following the calorie counting tht MFP has set abd exercising 3-5 x a week about 45-60 min a session. I have been told excersing is basically a waste of time and won't help weight loss and just my diet? I know its not a waste as its keeping me fit but surely its helping with weight loss??

Who told you exercise is a waste of time??

Start looking at medical journals and stop listening to those people. It's pretty clear that exercise and diet in combination are more effective for weight loss than either one alone.

Exercise obviously burns calories, which helps with weight loss, but it also speeds up your metabolism and adds lean muscle mass, which also help up your calorie burn.

Plus, exercise makes you strong (doesn't mean you have to be bulky). Who wants to be a skinny little thing with no muscle? That's what dieting alone will get you!

Just my two cents, but I think you should hang onto the gym membership!
