1lb per week????

I have been using my fitness plan now for just coming up for 4 weeks and the weight loss so far is 4lb, I feel like I am trying so hard but not getting much of a result. Is a 1lb a week a realistic weight loss. I eating around 1200 calories per day and am exercising 3/4 times a week and eat probably half the calories I burn.

Just feel like so much effort is going in but for small results, was hoping for 2lbs a week.

Your comments and input would be really appreciated, as I am starting to feel like falling off this wagon!!!

1lb per week is average for women. Just know that you will not always lose a pound per week. You may even "stall" for a few weeks and then whooosh! Five pounds gone. That is know as the "whoosh effect".

    Agreed! I love that article.

Be patient. The weight didn't come overnight and it will not leave overnight.

    "whoosh effect".

Is that a technical term? ;-)
  • I'm in the same place you are. I feel like I've made some drastic changes in diet and exercise as compared to my lazy self from 4 weeks ago and only have a couple pounds lost to show for it and it gets frustrating. I think I need to stop thinking of the changes as "effort" and start considering it normal and realize that regardless of what the scale says, I'm getting healthier. And besides, one pound lost is one less pound to lose. Of course, this is a heck of a lot easier said than done! I know this in my head but really feeling it is another thing. Hang in there and good luck!

And I can't wait to experience this "whoosh effect" - it sounds fun! :)

One thing to also think about, yes, the scale has only moved 4 lbs...but are you measuring yourself? I've only lost 7 lbs BUT I've gone down an entire pants size. It's quite possible to lose a very small amount of weight, but your body composition is changing (body fat % going down). Try and get your body fat % measured sometime to see where that is, it will give you a better indicator on where you should/want to be fitness wise. Stick with it!

One pound a week is PERFECT. Don't get hung up on the numbers and expect to drop like the contestants on the Biggest Loser.

If you don't have your goals set up to lose one pound a week, change it to one pound a week. You'll get to eat a little bit mroe, and hav the same progress without feeling like you're struggling.

1lb loss per week is fine and completely normal.

2lbs per week is difficult to achieve, some weeks you may find 2lbs comes off, other weeks it may be anything from 0.5lbs to 1.5lbs.

You should definitely measure yourself. I started at 157, and then stalled for 4 weeks at 147. I was so upset, dejected and felt like all this was a complete waste of time. You know, standard misery stuff. Then I realised my jeans were falling off of me, when i KNOW they were so tight before they were cutting off my circulation. So i started measuring, and wouldnt you know it, inches were falling off all over the place, and then a week or so later I was down to 144. Remember, pounds arent the only unit of measurement to use to track your success!

I have been stuck for a couple of weeks around the same weight. This morning when I got out of the shower I thought I *looked* thinner. When I got on the scale...2 lbs gone! In one day. It makes no sense, and I'm sure I will go up and down, but that is always a shock.

It took me about 3 weeks to lose 1 pound. So yeah, you're doing fine. Be patient.
  • your photo seems to indicate you don't have much to lose--if that's true then 1 pound per week is perfect. 1700 calories total burn for non-workout days is about right (1200 consumed + 500 daily deficit = 1700 maintenance). If you're eating back some of your exercise calories (which is great) then your weight loss is spot on...you should be proud of yourself!

1 lb a week is perfect. i eventually switched my projections to .5 a week, so i would have a little more wiggle room with my calories. i actually found that helped me kick start my metabolism after i went through a 7-9 week stall. make sure you're measuring. you might not be losing weight according to the numbers on the scale because you're replacing fat with muscle (which is a good thing!). good luck! you'll get there =)

Honestly, 1 pound a week is great. Have you ever seen what a pound of human fat looks like? Goggle it and you'll feel so triumphant haha.
I was aiming for 1 lb a week for awhile, but now I just hope for a 1/2 lb and let myself eat a little more so I don't feel like my whole life is about restrictions and numbers. Takes longer, but it feels great, like just a healthy lifestyle with the side effect of slow weight loss.
