Stupid question - pull ups or chin ups?

Yes - stupid question - but are these the same thing?
If not - whats the difference? Do they use different muscle sets? Is one easier than the other?

I'm setting a goal to be able to do 10 of these by the end of march in 60 seconds. ( I can currently do 3 - gripping the bar w/ my palms facing me)

Pretty open ended question here -but whats the best way to achieve this goal? Any specific muscle set to target more - or just get on the bar and do them every day?
Any help/suggestions would be great.

Chin ups- palms facing, biceps do most of the work.
Pull ups- palms facing away, wide grip, upper back does most of the work.

    Kinda..

Anyway, the best way to improve this excersize is to do this excersize. Do one or two, rest, try again.

Do as many as you can, til failure (you say you can do 3). On the last one you can do, hold it for 20 seconds. (attempting your 4th)
Then do "chin downs", where you start at the top and slowly release down for the rest of your goal count. (you would do 7 this way)
