I bulked for 4 months and gained 15lbs. i started my cut cycle 2 weeks ago. i am going on vacation in april, which at this point i will have been in a cut phase for 9 weeks. i am terrified of going on vacation because i do not want to spend all my time worrying about eating and drinking due to calories, but since i am cutting i am terrified of gaining weight.... SO would it work if i cut until then, then while on vacation start a small bulk, then get back on track with cutting when i get home? i will be on vacation for 9 days at an all inclusive resort, and i want to have fun and enjoy myself. i still plan on exercising, taking my supplements and protein powder with me and lifting.

If I was on a strict bulk/cut cycle I wouldn't want to ruin it by going on vacation...that being said I wouldn't be able to cut on a vacation either...what are your goals? Are you training for something? If it were me I'd probably cut until I leave, then just let it be (I wouldn't "bulk") and assess the damage when you get home. Worst thing that could happen, you might need to cut a couple weeks extra. The problem with bulking while on vacation is that you may not want to (or be able to) work out as hard as you should be during that time, so it may backfire. Who knows, maybe you won't gain anything and you can pick up right where you left off.

Cut until then, enjoy your holiday, and then get back on track.

You may gain weight (a lot might be water weight) and I wouldn't purposefully aim to gain like you would in a bulk, but just enjoy yourself and if you gain, then count it as a mini bulk, if you maintain great! Just try not to get too hung up about it. We only have holidays occasionally so just do the best you can in the situation.

Agree with the others....cut until your vacation. Then enjoy yourself, and do damage control when you get home.

I have a vaguely similar problem. Going on honeymoon in May - 2 weeks all inclusive lux resort in Cancun. More of an etiquette question, do you think my new wife will mind me hitting the gym in the mornings? She'd be asleep anyway! I probably should be with her but I want to keep my progress up and need to strength train if I am fully enjoying the all-inclusive!

i am not training for anything right now. i am just looking to build muscle mass and lower my bf%. i want abs!!! i am just so worried! but i want to have fun and i do not want my boyfriend to suffer either because i am so preoccupied with calories. last time i went on vacation i was walking, snorkling, hiking, and swimming everyday and still mananged to gain 5lbs :grumble: ( i think alot of it was water weight cause i lost it all in aout 2 weeks) I just do not want to set myself back after all my hard work:sad:

Unless you're gearing up for a competition or something, I can't see any reason to be that strict about sticking to a schedule. Just enjoy your vacation. Eating right and exercising should improve your life, not rule it.

If you are doing all those activities I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would worry more about the alcoholic beverages (if you drink) than the food. Sounds like you will be burning a ton of calories, during that time your body will also be healing and recovering as well and when you get back get right into it.

I wouldn't get on the scale right after you get back, give it about a week.

I'd at least stay in with her the first couple of mornings & then ask her if she'd be okay with you getting out early. Let her know you want to be considerate of her rest & you'd like to get a work out in. Then promise her that you'll be all hers post workout & you'll still have plenty of energy for other things! Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Jessica: I have no informed input for your question. But it IS a vacation. Be aware of what you are eating and enjoy yourself without worry or guilt. Work hard until you leave, be mindful while you enjoy the opportunity, and get yourself back on track when you get back. You may find yourself itching for at least a mild workout while you are there and if you do, and you have the time, go for it.

Umm, not to be too perspicacious, but simply asking her if she would mind and letting her know that her feelings on the matter, well matter, would go a hella longer way toward marital bliss than just assuming she may, or may not. Or any other input I (or anyone else here who don't even know her) could guess.

Yep. She's the only one who can answer how she's would feel about it. And since she's the one you're planning on spending the rest of your life with, hers is the only opinion that should matter to you anyway.

Chances are your gym won't have any decent free weights, But if it does go lifting man. Living a healthy life and marrying your girl were both life choices, stick with both of them!

Apparently the gym is quite decent! Thanks!

i think the drinking is going to be more my problem. i want some mamosas and pina colodas on the beach. i can choose wisley when eating but its not a vacation without the drinks! and the calories add up quick!
