Hopefully this time it's the last time

I have started to lose weight so many times over the past few years, and each time I'll lose a couple of stone and then gain that and more once I give up... I went to the doctors the other week and found out that my BMI is 37.8 and my ideal weight is 10 stone 3 lbs. So I am doing everything I can to get there. I started off yesterday by walking the 2 and a half miles to work in the afternoon, and I will be doing that again today (Bonus was that it saved me the bus fare!!). By the time I got there I was soaked with sweat, and huffing and puffing so much I thought I was going to pass out.But I did it. And for the rest of yesterday I was buzzing around with the energy of a 5 year old. I felt so proud of myself and I can't wait to do it again today :). I think it is best for me to just start by walking more than before, and then I'll start introducing new things. Obviously my eating habits need to change, and they will, but if I change everything in one go (like I have done before) I'll just end up giving in because it will be too much. My plan is to make a list of things I'd like to change about my diet/lifestyle and one by one tick them off. I won't move onto the next one before I have completed the one before either.

So I feel I have almost conquered adding walking into my life. I have planned when I can schedule walking into my daily routine for the next few weeks so have given myself plenty of oppurtunities to get moving. The next thing for me is what happens from tomorrow: I am giving up chocolate for lent!! Chocolate is my enemy, and my friend. It is what got me to this weight I think. I don't exactly have fast food everyday, but I can't remember the last time I didn't eat any chocolate in one day. So from tomorrow for 40 days and 40 nights I am giving up the sweet stuff. Wish me luck with both that and this journey!

I feel so confident that this is it this time. This site is awesome and I know I'll get all the help I need.

    Awesome start with walking!! One thing at a time is the best way to go. Giving up chocolate and focusing on nutrition for the next 40 days will be a great jump start and by the end you will for sure have developed new healthy habits. So amazing how exercising gives you energy! Keep up the great work!

    Be careful. Giving up something you love (chocolate) will inevitably lead to a binge. Maybe, instead of giving it up completely for lent, you could say "I am only going to have 2 pieces a day instead of 10". Thats what its all about is moderation. Just my .02

    I guess you're right. But I think I only eat it because it is there. And I only buy it because I have the spare change to get it. My plan is to only take the money out with me that I need. So I can't buy it. And I can't eat it. Maybe then at Easter if I want to start reintroducing it into my diet I will appreciate it more and enjoy it. Rather than just eating it cos I can.

    That's the plan anyway. And I am trying to find substitues for the sweetness. I love blueberries and just found out you can buy a snack bag of them for about the same price as a bar of chocolate.
  • Fantastic Jess! The beginning is always the hardest. Keep up the walking and tell yourself that "it will get easier" and it does. Every time I leave a workout I stop and am mindful of how good I feel at that moment. Then you get addicted to that good feeling, so even when you don't want to exercise, you can remind yourself how much better you are going to feel when you are finished.

    Changing one thing at a time is THE best possible thing you can do. Then it becomes a lifestyle. If we just change one habit at a time, then we are creating one new healthy habit at a time and it stays with us.

    I am working to find healthy recipies for hubby and me. We agreed that we don't want to feel like we are on a "diet", so I try to find one new healthy recipe a week and try it out. If we love it, I add it to our new healthy living cookbook I'm creating, but if we don't love it, I trash it. And when you think about it, all we need is a dozen or two easy, healthy recipes, because we all have our favorites and eat them over and over again. So if I have 20 healthy recipes, we make it less than twice a month! I don't need and entire book of recipes, just a couple dozen.

  • I am starting to do that as well. Just taking the money I need out with me; that way I wont feel the need to buy some more food and also over spend on nights out... win win I say

    If you are after healthy recipes to try out may I suggest the goodtoknow website? It is full of awesome SW, RC and WW recipes. :) You have to try RC's Cajun Chicken Casserole. It is to die for!! We have that at least once a week and it's so simple and quick to do.

    My legs are killing me. Especially my shins. But I still went for my 10 minute jog this evening. I'm starting the C25K tomorrow if I can figure out how to get it onto my MP3 player.... If not I'll just be walking my usual 2 and a half miles, but possibly adding a little bit of jogging in too to break it up. I find that my legs hurt more with teh walking than with the running... Is that normal?
