I had asked a few people but for some reason no one ever answers me, so I thought I would ask some people who have lost a lot of weight. I needed to loose 107 pounds to get to my goal, and I am only at 19 so far, but I am super worried about loosing that much weight and having extra sagging skin. I see some pics of people that have lost 100 pounds and they look awesome. I was just wondering if anyone has had problems with this, I have read that if you are exercizing and sweating, then it will stretch back, and I have also read that some poeple had surgery to have it removed :noway: Any serious answers would be really helpful please and thank you.

There have been a number of threads on this same question... I know... I've tried to read them all!!! I too worry about loose skin!
I am 47 and have lost 72 lbs so far. I do have some loose skin (mostly my thighs and bellY, but I also have another 20-30lbs to lose. I'm also a pear shape, so when I lose weight, I lose top down, so... my upper body looks pretty decent, but I still need to lose more fat (and tone up) my lower body. And... most of my exercise to date has been walking and running. I haven't been doing too much weight training, and I know I really need to fit that into my schedule... I think toning with weights will help me.
Bottom line... from what I've read in the other posts about this topic, it really all depends on whether or not you will have loose skin after you lose a lot of weight. Things like age, genetics, how fast you lose it, etc., all come into play. Also, I've read that it takes time as well. For me... once I hit my goal weight... and tone up... I'll probably wait a year or two to see how my body changes before I think about any other measures.0 -
The response from dsak is right on.
It's different for every person. You have 107lbs to lose, there are weeks where you will loose 1lb, 2 or more. The best way to "avoid" loose skin is to take it slow, drink plenty of water to hydrate yourself and your skin (I usually drink half my weight in fl. oz), use lotions that are rich in vitamin E and/or collagen ellastin to help with the health of your skin (I personally use St. Ives - $3 for a 38oz bottle). Like mentioned above, you need to build lean muscle and keep toned.
If you do happen to have loose skin after you have lost the weight you wanted to loose, allow your self about 2yrs to see whether or not the skin will shrink back, and in the mean time keep building and maintaining lean muscle.
Good luck and don't get discouraged about loose skin. I'm 22 and understand your frustration (I mean we are young and having loose skin would suck) and a month ago I has a different opinion about loose skin; I felt that it would be the worst thing ever, but I'd rather be healthy with loose skin, and lower my risk for heart disease or diabetes that worry about trivial things like that.0 -
Thanks so much, I will keep those things in mind. I did get a skin firming lotion yesterday. and I am still pretty young, so hopefully I won't have bad sagging skin. Thanks again0

hi, one of my MFP friends wrote a blog yesterday ' what am I going to do' regarding this issue. The 1st reply was informative and you may find this useful. I honestly don't know the answer but age and the way in which weight is lost maybe a factor.0

The faster you lose, the higher risk of loose skin. With that much weight to lose (and I do too, so I completely understand! but I'm old LOL), you may have more loose skin than you'd like. I for one am not opposed to surgically removing it. If that's something you're not opposed to, perhaps start saving and make that your "reward"?0

I think because you are young that will help a lot. But, I asked this question in regards to having a baby and now loose skin.
I was told to dry brush the skin and to consume and apply coconut oil. So...there are a couple of ideas!0 -
Thanks so much for the advice ladies! :flowerforyou:0
