I am doing the program, but not at home... Unless you have a full gym with barbells, plates, squat rack, dumbbells, etc., you will have a very hard time doing this at home.

I think if you're doing this at home then you will need a good set of dumbbells at the very least. You can use modified versions of each exercise so that all you need is dumbbells, but the best is going to be to find a full gym with a squat rack as agleckle said.

Bump. Just started reading this book the other day but haven't put it into practice yet.

I have a 100lb barbel set I can always add on and buy the regular size bar. I have dumbbell set of 3,5,10 and 15lbs. I have a 12in high step with an aerobic step that I can use an incline bench etc. I have a stability ball.

That all sounds like a great start! I would say to definitely get a set of heavier dumbbells (20-25lbs) to help you out with lunges, etc. as you progress. Also, you might not get to your max ability with squats if you don't have a rack to help get the bar up to your shoulders. Other than that, you seem like you are pretty set up! :)

I bought a used olympic weight set from a local trading paper...saved enough to afford a power cage.

Lots of people buy these new when they make their New Year's resolutions and after they've been delegated to being coat-racks for a few years, they sell 'em cheap. Gain from their lack of resolve!

    Happy Lifting!

I am trying to save up for a adjustable dumbbell set those are expensive. I think the 100 should keep me occupied for a little bit. Then when I get the olympic size bar that will be 45 as well. I have the book.

Could I not just use my barbell for lunges?

You can. I have found it easier to use dumbbells when it calls for Bulgarian split squats and rear-foot/front-foot elevated lunges though you may have no problems at all.

I do this routine at home...I'm in stage 1 of the workout. I have an Olympic set at home, a weight bench, cable machine with weights, dumbbells, power tower, aerobic step, and stability ball. So far, I haven't run into any exercise that I can't do at home yet. I LOVE the program and I highly recommend it! Someone above mention that you can usually get weight equipment used. Some of mine is used, and some is new. I agree though, sometimes, people are just wanting to clean out their garage or make a few bucks. Check Craig's List or your local newspaper/web first. Your wallet will thank you!

Ok. Do you think 20lbs will be enough or should I go higher with the db?
