I'm looking to find something to 'hold' my cell phone, car keys, id, and a small amount of cash during a 5k other then a traditional fanny pack. Any ideas?

I picked up a Griffin Aerosport armband from TJMaxx for $10 last week. Holds my iPhone securely and has a small pocket that could hold a single key and folded cash. It's too narrow to hold your ID, but you could probably slide that behind the phone.

Griffin makes good cell phone cases & has more armband models available - https://store.griffintechnology.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=armband&op=Search&form_build_id=form-86ad04432c6b6857807add0707b09c8d&form_id=search_theme_form

I run ~ 30 miles a week with a running belt by amphipod. The current version appears to be the AIRFLOW MICROSTRETCH BELT. Its stretchy, holds my iphone, power bar, cash, and credit card. I prefer to tie my keys to my shoe laces. I sometimes have to check to make sure I am wearing ithe belt because I can't feel it. I also have the amphipod "Profile - Lite" that includes a water bottle. I use the profile-lite when trail running without access to water. Unlike the microstretch belt, I definately know the prolite is there and find myself adjusting it while I run.

Good luck. Amphipod products are available online. I bought mine at the local REI store.

OP, check with your race organizer. Some races have a "gear corral" where you can drop off a bag with your extra stuff in it and pick it up after you finish.

I have a Nathan Fuel belt, the pocket on it is likely not big enough for an IPhone, but something else in thier line may have a biger pocket.

I enjoy my SPIbelt, It's like the other things these folks are talking about only it's made out of a super stretchy material so it can be quite small or stretch to hold a phone, several energy gels and keys etc. I bought it at my local running store, but you can get it at Spibelt.com

    HTH.

    Good Luck!

iFitness also makes a line of super-slim "pockets" that go around your waist. The pouches even have a little sleeve inside for ID or credit cards. I can fit my ID, credit card, cash, phone and keys in one, snug it around my waist so the pockets sit on the small of my back and I'm off for miles! It was kind of odd the first time but after a couple runs with it I don't even notice it anymore.

I wear a fuel belt, think I got it at Walmart to try out. Comes with (and holds) four small water bottles, plus two pockets for phones/ipods and two smaller pockets for gels/keys. I think belts take a little getting used to - you have to find where you like it to sit on your body, but I never run outside without it. It was like $10.

Nathan makes a neoprene pouch-on-a-belt. They have "5k" and "10k" sizes. Either is big enough to hold phone/creditcard/cash but the 10k model can hold a couple of energy bars too. If you get into doing longer runs you can pin energy gels to the belt part. I have a 5k that I've used for years. They never seem to wear out.

Sometimes big races have "health and fitness" expos as part of the event. This is a good opportunity to pick up all sorts of running gear b/c manufacturers and merchants are there to show off their stuff. The bargain bins are especially fun :D
  • I would not give up my Spibelt for ANYTHING. It becomes a part of me when I run!
  • Whenever I run outdoors, I wear a "shoe pouch" on one of my shoes, which is big enough to hold my keys, ID, credit card, and a little cash. Then I usually hold my cell phone if I want to keep that on me. I prefer the "Road ID" brand for the shoe pouch, because you can personalize the strap to have your name, emergency contact info, allergy info, etc. on it if you want. Plus, the strap is reflective and the pouch is waterproof! Once it's on, I don't even notice it while I'm running. I've seen Nike and other brands of shoe pouches, too. Usually they secure with a velcro strap.
    Good luck!
